It has been almost 20 years since Avatar: The Last Airbender debuted and the franchise is bigger than ever. Live-action and animated projects are in development, and luckily, TV isn’t the only way to experience that.
Although the original series ended in 2008 starting in 2012 Avatar: The Last Airbender continued his story through comic books almost annually; Many of them are just one-off stories, but in most cases, Avatar: The Last AirbenderThe comics are the most direct continuation of everyone’s adventures from the original series. Any fan of Air Master it would be remiss to ignore them, and there is a perfect order to reading these books too.
Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Top Comics in Order
The promise
2012 Avatar: The Last Airbender: The promise is the first of five trilogies written by Gene Luen Yang. The promise begins after the end of the Hundred Year War, with everyone trying to find the best way to right the Fire Nation’s wrongs. Tensions rise over how best to deal with the Fire Nation colonies and as things begin to escalate into another war Aang has to deal with his promise to kill Zuko if he shows signs of becoming like Ozai..
The Search
The Search is Gene Luen Yang’s second Avatar: The Last Airbender trilogies, released in 2013. After the events of The promiseZuko eventually decided to look for his mother, Ursa, forcing him and the rest of Team Avatar to team up with a distraught Azula, the only one who knows where to find her. The search for Ursa is interspersed with flashbacks to Ursa’s life to show how she became involved with Ozai and what she was doing during Zuko’s childhood, and sure enough, The Search ultimately reveals what happened to Zuko’s mother in the end.
The Rift
In 2014 The RiftAang attempts to celebrate an Air Nomad holiday with his friends, but is met with resistance from Toph, as the celebration’s traditional values remind Toph of how strict her parents were. Coincidentally, Team Avatar discovers that Toph’s father is leading a mining operation destroying the ecosystem on the island where they are celebrating the Air Nomad holiday.and while Toph tries to close the deal with her father, Aang tries to stop the mining operation from discovering one of Yangchen’s biggest mistakes.
Smoke and shadow
2015 Smoke and Shadow it’s the room Avatar: The Last Airbender trilogy, the first part taking place simultaneously with The Rift. Zuko’s plans to spend time with his mother and new sister are interrupted by the New Ozai Society.a political movement led by Mai’s father that seeks to put Ozai back on the throne by any means necessary. At the center of it all, however, are the Kemurikage, a mysterious group of spirits who kidnap Fire Nation children, and while they are tied to Zuko’s position as Fire Lord, it’s not in the way anyone might imagine.
North and South
2016 North and South is the last Avatar: The Last Airbender comic book to be written by Gene Luen Yang. Sokka and Katara finally return to the Southern Water Tribe to find that it has completely changed thanks to the help of the Northern Water Tribe, and while Sokka is ecstatic about everything, Katara is decidedly more confused, especially since this leads to unexpected changes with your father. . The rest of the tribe is also divided about the changes and sure Team Avatar must stop a potential civil war between the Northern and Southern Water Tribes.
Imbalance
2018 Imbalance is the first comic book series written by Faith Erin Hicks, who has since taken on writing duties for all of the major Avatar: The Last Airbender comics. How does the factory The Rift has grown to the point where a city is built around it, tensions rise as benders protest for fear of losing their jobs to non-benders, and when the leader behind it all proves not to be someone Aang can rely on. simply knock to end the conflict, Aang is forced to deal with one of his biggest moral dilemmas since the original show.

Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Standalone Comics
Katara and the Pirate’s Silver
2020 Katara and the Pirate Silver is the first independent Avatar: The Last Airbender comics and the first installment of what would later be known as the Team Avatar Treasure. Taking place sometime during Book 2, Katara is taken in by a group of pirates after a battle with the Fire Nation separates her from Team Avatar.and as Katara is pushed out of her comfort zone, she must find her tough side to survive in her new group while finding her way back to her friends.
Toph Beifong’s Metalbending Academy
2021 Toph Beifong’s Metalbending Academy is the second installment of Team Avatar Treasure. Although Toph’s metalbending academy is bigger than ever, this success has forced Toph into a life of repetitive mundanity that forces her to question what she should do with her life. A secret underground bending tournament ends up helping Toph get the answers she neededbut it is in a way that no one would expect, both in and out of the universe.
Suki, alone
Suki, alone is the last installment of Team Avatar Treasurereleased shortly after Toph Beifong’s Metalbending Academy. The story parallels the iconic Book 2 episode, “Zuko Alone,” as a solo story starring Suki that explores her past to further develop her character amid her current problems, specifically how Suki, alone shows what Suki was doing at Boiling Rock before Sokka and Zuko went there and rescued her and Hakoda.
Azula in the Spiritual Temple
2023 Azula in the Spiritual Temple happens some time later Smoke and Shadow and sees Azula once again alone after a failed insurrection against the Fire Nation. Now at a crossroads, Azula ends up in a spiritual temple that forces her to face her past and her various shortcomings in order to force her to change her ways.but as you’d expect, this isn’t something that comes easy for someone like Azula.
The Bounty Hunter and the Tea Maker
2024 The Bounty Hunter and the Tea Maker is the latest standalone graphic novel and is focused on Iroh and June, the bounty hunter from Book 1. While Iroh investigates a shortage of deliveries for the Jasmine Dragon, he is captured by June to receive a reward from a mysterious benefactor, and as Iroh is dragged into the Earthrealm, Iroh tries to convince June to change her ways and, at the same time, confront her past as the Dragon of the West..
