The Harry Potter TV Show Is Fixing One of Cinema's Biggest Missed Opportunities (But It's Still Challenging)

As the development Harry Potter The TV series continues, more details are revealed about the characters that will appear in it, and a recent update reveals that the series will fix one of the film's biggest wasted opportunities, but it's still a huge challenge. After the failure and controversies of the Fantastic Beasts trilogy, the Wizarding World is returning to Harry Potter series, but not with a new film. Instead, the novels are getting a new adaptation now as a TV series, set for release in 2026 on Max.

This longer format will allow Harry Potter remake to explore the stories and characters that the films had to leave out due to time constraints, as well as delve deeper into the main characters' stories that the films could only cover on a more superficial level. While the TV show's production team searches for the perfect cast, the presence of a character from the books who almost made it to the big screen has been confirmed, but as exciting as it is, it will also be a challenge.

Peeves will finally have a live-action version

The world of Harry Potter it is very rich and extensive, and some colorful characters from the books were not lucky enough to make it to the cinema. However, the TV show is giving them another chance, and one character confirmed not included in the films is Peeves. As confirmed by executive producers Mark Mylod and Francesca Garinder (via Harry Potter), the Harry Potter The TV series will finally bring Peeves to lifesimply saying that they will have fun with Peeves in the halls of Hogwarts castle.

Peeves is one of the many spirits that inhabit Hogwarts castle.but unlike the usually friendly ghosts in each house, Peeves is a poltergeist. As such, Peeves is all about chaos and mischief, often messing with teachers and studentsbut his favorite target is Filch. Peeves got along well with Fred and George Weasley due to their shared love of pranks and challenging authority, and the only ones capable of controlling him were Dumbledore and Slytherin's ghost, the Bloody Baron.

Peeves' origins are unknown, but he came with the castle and has therefore created chaos at Hogwarts since its founding in 993. Peeves is believed to be the manifestation of the students' anticswhich would also explain why he has been in the castle for centuries and may never leave as long as there are students in love with pranks and chaos.

Peeves participated in some of Harry Potter's greatest moments (and deserves those in the remake)

Peeves is a secondary character, but he appeared in great moments

Finally meeting Peeves outside of the books (and video games) is exciting, but comes with the risk of becoming the show's comic relief. Sure, Peeves was meant to be a comedic character, but he has a role in some of the books' biggest stories and should be a part of them in the TV remake as well. When the Weasley twins prepared to leave Hogwarts while it was under the control of Dolores Umbridge, they gave some instructions to Peeves wants to give Umbridge hell during your absence. Peeves showed respect for the twins, saluting them.

Peeves even discreetly enlisted the support of Professor McGonagall during this period, as seen when she told him that he was unscrewing a chandelier the wrong way.

Peeves honored the twins' instructions and began getting up to mischief, which included throwing tarantulas into the Great Hall, destroying property, and locking Mrs. Norris in a suit of armor. Peeves even discreetly enlisted the support of Professor McGonagall during this period, as seen when she told him that he was unscrewing a chandelier the wrong way. Peeves' next appearance in a key Harry Potter moment was during the Battle of Hogwarts, where he joined the rest in defending the castle.

Peeves's way of helping during the Battle of Hogwarts was by bothering and distracting the Death Eaters entering the castle, and he never messed with any of the school's defenders. After the battle ended, Peeves flew among the survivors singing a song of victory. Pirraça's moments in Harry Potter saga are mostly about chaos and pranks, but if the TV show goes as far as showing Umbridge's reign and the Battle of Hogwarts, Peeves deserves to have his role respected.

Another reason why Peeves' appearance in the next Harry Potter The TV show is so exciting that it was supposed to appear in the movie, but it ended up being cut. Rik Mayall was cast as Peeves and filmed his scenes for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stonebut every one of them was cut off. Mayall said UK Underground he was paid for his work, and a month later he learned that his character had been cut from the film. The cut footage of Peeves was not made availablebut director Chris Columbus said there is a three-hour version of Philosopher's Stone with Peeves.

It's unknown whether the director's cut of Columbus featuring the previously unseen and long-awaited Peeves footage will be released, but at least the Harry Potter The TV show will now bring the character to life. Peeves needs to maintain his mischievous and chaotic nature in the TV remake, but without forgetting that he is also quite loyal and has respect for the castle, enough to join its defense during the Battle of Hogwarts.

Harry Potter is the remake of HBO's iconic Wizarding World film series, which consisted of eight films between 2001 and 2011. Each season adapts a book from JK Rowling's popular series and provides more accurate details of the book than the films. Following the announcement of the Harry Potter TV show, the series received harsh criticism for Rowling's involvement and many thinking a reboot was unnecessary.
