The Frasier reboot sets up the perfect replacement for those decades-old Frasier and Roz season 3 romance theories

After the end of Frasier Season 2 reboot left many possibilities open for Season 3, including the creation of a new and promising romance. Frasier Season 2 saw a familiar set of returning characters, as well as several new faces and characters from the original series who had not yet appeared in the reboot, including Roz’s daughter Alice Doyle. The introduction (or reintroduction) of new characters meant that the series was able to play more freely with relationship dynamics and develop the first season to the series’ own advantage.

Along with the reintroduction of Alice Doyle, Roz Doyle also played a larger role in Frasier Season 2, sparking initial interest in Roz and Frasier’s relationship. Over the course of the original show, Frasier and Roz became best friends and balanced each other out. When Roz and Frazier finally slept together in Season 9, their dynamic changed until they both agreed they would work better as friends. Now, the reboot has moved from the original romance between Frasier and Roz, whose friendship dynamic was a crucial aspect, to a potential relationship between two new characters.

How Frasier Could Still Have a Crane/Doyle Romance in Season 3

Freddy Crane and Alice Doyle could become Frasier’s new couple

Frasier The Season 2 finale set up Freddy and Alice’s romance for Season 3, which means the series could still have a Crane/Doyle romantic pairing. However, in contrast to Frasier and Roz’s dynamic in the original show, which saw the two gradually grow closer, Alice was presented from the beginning as wanting to meddle in Freddy’s love life. Her interest in Freddy could mean a growing connection between the two in Season 3.

When Alice first appears in Season 2, Episode 6, “Cape Cod”, Frasier is clearly creating this possibility. The two try to reconnect after not seeing each other since childhood. Since it’s been revealed that Alice is studying architecture at RISD, it would make sense for her to become a bigger part of the show overall, and the establishment of a romance makes that integration even easier.

Freddy and Alice could also be the rebooted version of Niles and Daphne

The show may have a relationship with Freddy and Alice

If Season 3 sets up the plot of Freddy and Alice’s romance, they could become the new version of Niles and Daphne. In the original, this pairing is established early on, when Niles falls in love with Daphne. However, the show always created reasons why he could never share his feelings with her, leading to a very slow rise in fans rooting for their romance to happen. When Niles and Daphne finally get together at the end of Season 7, their relationship lasts until the end of the series, and their son, David, is now a major character in the reboot.

Freddy and Alice could become a long-running couple that could last the life of the reboot and serve as an emotional backbone for the show, as Niles and Daphne finally became in the original.

Similarly, the new Frasier the series could create a slow-burn romance around Freddy and Alicewhich is always a popular choice in sitcoms, with Alice serving as Niles’ replacement and Freddy as Daphne’s replacement. This creates a chance for the show to introduce love triangles and complications before finally bringing the two together. Freddy and Alice could become a long-running couple that could last the life of the reboot and serve as an emotional backbone for the show, like Niles and Daphne ultimately became in the original.

Freddy and Alice are better than the alternate romance setup

Freddy and Eve weren’t supposed to be a couple in season three

Even if Freddy and Alice don’t become Frasiermain couple, the pairing is still better than the alternative. Season 2 Episode 6, ‘Cape Cod’, is initially framed as a way for Frasier to bring Freddy and Eve together, and Alice better show up when she does. Freddy and Eve make a great duo, but they work better as friends, just like Frasier and Roz themselves. It would greatly complicate their dynamics if Freddy and Eve ended up together in season 3.

However, there is a brief moment where Freddy is talking to Alice, and Eve seems a little upset. While this could suggest that Eve has some romantic feelings for Freddy, it could also just mean that she worries about losing her best friend to someone else. Frasier season three could still explore Eve’s feelings towards Freddy in more depth, without seeing the two become a couple.

Furthermore, because Eve lost her husband and Freddy was one of her best friends, the couple’s bond grew through helping each other through grief. At this point in the story, it doesn’t make sense for their bond to become romantic. Although Freddy and Eve have an important bond, it would make more sense to Frasier Season 3 to explore the romance between Freddy and Alice.
