Preview Batman: Gotham by Gaslight – Age of Krypton #5 continues the story of the Elseworlds miniseries, which has so far featured alternate versions of Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Green Lantern, Catwoman and even the Suicide Squad and now the Flash.

Requests for this issue promise a fight with the Sheriff of Smallville, who fans can see on the main cover, who will be this universe’s answer to Superman. Preview presents it Other worlds incarnation of the Speedster, and his new origin is surprisingly dark.

With Luthor’s plans uncovered, he sends his Suicide Squad to Smallville, Kansas to further uncover the secrets of the ancient Kryptonian era. But when a ruthless task force challenges the seemingly bumbling town sheriff to a duel to the death, they quickly discover that this lawman is much more super than they ever thought!

Jay Garrick does his Gotham by gaslight debut in the latter Gotham by gaslight issue in which he is revealed to be Lex Luthor’s assistant. When a meteor-like object fell to Earth in 1860, Luthor and Garrick were experimenting with the lightning-shaped artifact. After the meteorite falls, the artifact gains power, causing Luthor to lose all his hair and Garrick to become “…electrostatically frozen in the blink of an eye” Luthor explains that Garrick appears to be stuck in time and unable to succumb to gravity.

Whether Garrick will be able to escape his current predicament and gain super speed remains to be seen, but the thought of being stuck in time and constantly falling sounds like a real nightmare.. The creative team behind it Kryptonian Age found some creative ways to bring classic DC characters to life Gotham by gaslight-verse, such as Adam Strange’s transformation into an Antarctic explorer who discovers ancient Kryptonian ruins on Earth. There he meets a particularly dark version of Wonder Woman who appears to hail from an ancient civilization.

With all the cameos seen so far, it will be very interesting to see which DC heroes and villains will be introduced into the world next. Gotham by gaslight.
