With Sony's Spider-Man universe reportedly wrapped up, a seven-year tease from Marvel Cinematic Universe could finally be capitalized. With Kraven the HunterAt the end of, it was reported that Sony's Spider-Man universe was over. This is likely not only as a result of the commercial failures of several films in the franchise, but also due to their critical reception, with Sony's Spider-Man Universe film ratings often seeing them considered inferior to their MCU counterparts.
Naturally, attention now turns to others nearby Spider-Man films in development. Be the last installment of Spider-Verse trilogy or the MCU Spider-Man 4 history, the Web-Slinger's future still looks promising despite the failure of Sony's live-action franchise. When looking at the MCU Spider-Man in particular, a tease that was first included in the franchise seven years ago may now be more possible than ever thanks to the conclusion of Sony's Spider-Man Universe.
One character is left in limbo after Kraven the Hunter: Where is Michael Keaton's Vulture?
After Morbius, no one knows where the vulture is
Before exploring the specific tease in question, it's worth detailing which character is involved and what has been seen of him since: Michael Keaton's Vulture. Keaton first appeared in the MCU in Spider-Man: Homecoming as Adrian Toomes/Vulture, a man whose occupation was overthrown by Tony Stark, who decided to steal from the billionaire as a result. This brought him into conflict with Iron Man's new protégé, Spider-Man, resulting in his arrest. Given that Vulture was not killed off, many assumed he was being groomed for a villainous role in future films such as Spider-Man 4.
However, the 2022 release Morbius confusing things. In the post-credits scene of the superhero movie set in an entirely different universe, Vulture somehow appeared. Vulture claims it doesn't know how it got into this universe, insisting it had something to do with Spider-Man, despite the Web-Slinger not appearing in any of the SSU films except Lady Teia like a newborn baby. Since then, The Vulture has not appeared in either the MCU or SSU, raising the question of where exactly he is now this Kraven the Hunter effectively ended the last franchise.
Spider-Man: Homecoming Post-Credits Scene May Finally Be Paid
A provocation from seven years ago can finally be resolved
With Keaton's future as Vulture on the horizon, Morbius films now in doubt, the MCU could make up for his last appearance in that universe. This came in Spider-Man: Homecomingpost-credits scene, with Toomes being approached in prison by Mac Garganwho wanted to know the Web-Slinger's secret identity. None Spider-Man: Far From Home nor Spider-Man: No Way Home addressed Return homepost-credit scene, likely due to Sony wanting to use the Vulture character in Sony's Spider-Man universe and the MCU stories simply not having room to include the Vulture or Scorpion as teased.
The next trilogy of Spider-Man the films would give more than enough story potential for Vulture and Scorpion to team up in revenge against Peter Parker…
However, now that Sony's Spider-Man universe is over, Vulture could be used once again in the MCU, finally making up for Sony's post-credits scene. Spider-Man: Homecoming. The next trilogy of Spider-Man the films would give more than enough story potential for Vulture and Scorpion to team up in revenge against Peter Parker, finally addressing a compelling setup for future films seven years after it was included in the franchise. Although Spider-Man 4 it's expected to be a multiversal story tied to the next two Marvel Avengers films, Spider-Man 5 could finally bring the Vulture back.
Will Morbius' post-credits scene ever be explained?
Whether Vulture returns or not, the burning question is whether its Morbius the deviation will never be explained. Admittedly, there are ways Marvel Studios could explain the Morbius post-credits scene, but it could be easier for the franchise to just ignore it. Morbius was a critical and commercial failure, receiving incredibly poor reviews and earning a worldwide box office haul of just $167 million. As such, there aren't many who will be overly concerned about the MCU maintaining continuity with Morbius in case Marvel Studios decides to disregard the film.
Secondly, the MCU could directly address Morbius'post-credits scene thanks to the events of Spider-Man: No way home. This film saw Spider-Man-adjacent characters being thrown into universes, including the likes of Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock/Venom, who also exists in Sony's Spider-Man universe. Just as Venom briefly jumped universes from the SSU to the MCU and back again, it could be explained that Vulture simply did the opposite. This would allow the Marvel Cinematic Universe to explain any potential plot holes, while also releasing Keaton's Vulture and the post-credits scene seven years into the future.
