The DCU's Superman Poster Makes My Biggest Hope for the 2025 Movie Seem Even More Likely

The first official poster of 2025 Superman was released, making my biggest hope for the DCU movie even more likely. After some teaser images from DC Studios' new James Gunn film, promotion for the first live-action film in the new DCU has officially begun. To that end, the film's new motion poster and soundtrack have me incredibly excited.

It has been confirmed that the first teaser trailer for Superman is set to be released on Thursday, December 19th. However, the new motion poster is doing a solid job raising my excitement for the next DCU film all on its own. That's why I'm seeing the new Superman poster as a good sign of things to come, before any footage has even been released.

The first official Superman poster already gave me the only thing I wanted: John Williams

Reinforcing a key idea about the new DCU film

Well before the new Superman poster and trailer announcement were released, thene of my biggest hopes was that James Gunn and DC Studios would incorporate the classic theme from the 1978 film Superman: The Movie by composer John Williams. Known for his incredible contributions to cinema with his soundtracks for films such as Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Parkand much more, I strongly believe that Superman the theme is one of the most iconic. Nearly 50 years later, John Williams' theme is still incredibly synonymous with DC's greatest superhero.

As such, I was extremely happy to discover that a new version of Williams' score can actually be heard with Superman movement poster. Likewise, it was also an incredible surprise to hear the classical theme with orchestration more in line with the Man of Steel themes by composer Han Zimmer (who I also deeply love). As such, this epic new excerpt from what will presumably be Superman The new theme certainly helps reinforce a central idea about the upcoming film: legacy.

The Superman of the DC Universe Balancing the “Classic Superman” with a new vision of the hero is crucial to the film’s success

Honoring the character's 86-year legacy

James Gunn's next DCU film was originally titled Superman: Legacy. Although I like the simplified Superman title, it looks like the central theme and aesthetic of Legacy itself will still be maintained, especially if these new promotional images and posters are any indication. In addition to the soulful soundtrack, the poster itself is also brilliant.

“The new poster certainly represents the timeless concept that was suggested by James Gunn himself for the next Superman film…”

Featuring new Superman actor David Corenswet front and center, the new Man of Tomorrow is the only subject in this new DCU poster, surrounded by an aurora borealis effect in reds, blues, and yellows. It's a truly simple yet stunning poster with a contemporary superhero style, but not as busy as most modern movie posters.. As such, the new poster certainly represents the timeless concept that was suggested by James Gunn himself for the next Superman film, as seen in previous promotional images that debuted the new costume or Kal-El sitting with his dog Krypto.

I'm so excited to see how the Superman movie teases come true in the next DCU story

I hope Superman feels eternally hopeful

Unfortunately, the Superman the film itself is still 7 months away. However, I'm incredibly excited to see the next teaser this week, when marketing for the new DCU film really begins. The new poster and soundtrack certainly helped reinforce the idea that this new version of the Man of Steel will be bold and new, while also exploring Superman's legacy and the timeless components of his character, such as hope and justice.

By honoring the past while looking to the future, James Gunn's work Superman has the excellent opportunity to combine audiences who love traditional films with audiences who love new updated versions of the Man of Tomorrow. If this new poster and score are any indication, 2025 Superman probably being able to interact with multiple generations of Superman fans, old and new. With any luck, the imminent new teaser trailer will continue to build hype and get people really excited ahead of release. Superman release in the summer.

Superman opens in theaters on July 11, 2025.
