Creature Commands
is kicking the UDC
into high gear in the first outing, with some brutal battles that could affect the rest of the DCU, especially for a Wonder Woman villain. Creature Commands is the first entry into the DCU and as such comes from the talented new head of DC Studios, James Gunn. So the series, of course, features a lot of the typical violent, funny, and wild aesthetic that accompanies Gunn's work.
For example, the first three episodes introduced antiheroes whose brutal, inhumane fighting styles proved to be perfect for Waller's intense, direct approach as she wields Task Force M as her personal weapon. For her debut mission, she sends the rambunctious team to fight a super threat in the form of Circe, one of Themyscira's Amazons, who is now attacking a small neighboring nation known as Pokolistan. While there, the team confronted Circe, and left her in terrible condition.

After Circe brutally destroys GI Robot and then goes on her way to take down Princess Ilana, she finds herself the victim of a horrific beating. Weasel, one of the least human creatures on the team, formed a strong connection with Ilana after she played with him in the previous episode, and so when he sees her in trouble, he rushes to help. Then, he unleashes all of his monstrous power as he scratches, tears and bites Circe's flesh.
As if that weren't enough Circe is then incapacitated on the ground and the terrible Batman villain Doctor Phosphorus approaches with his hand outstretched burning and destroying the skin on Circe's face. Considering that Phosphorus was literally blasting Circe's men with his touch moments before, this is sure to cause significant damage, and for a brief moment at the end of episode 3, Circe can be seen, beaten, bruised, burned, and captured.
Why Circe's redesign could be permanent in the DC universe
The DCU is a connected universe
As noted above, the touch of phosphorus was fatal to many large and powerful men who worked alongside Circe. Now, since Circe is an Amazon, from the same group of powerful women as Wonder Woman, it makes sense that she wouldn't be killed by this, but it would be surprising if it didn't at least leave some kind of scar. THE the strength of his enhanced healing has not been revealedbut it would be strange to inflict so much damage only to reverse it an episode later.
And if the scars remain, it could be something that reappears in the DCU, considering Gunn's intention to connect the shows and movies everywhere. It would also help establish just how formidable the Creature Commandos are, with their powers and strength causing lasting damage to what essentially amounts to a god-like individual. And the scar would have more benefits in other ways that could help value the DCU as a whole.
Circe's redesign shows a seamless way to bridge live-action and animated releases
The details could make all the difference for the future of the DCU
James Gunn aims to start the new universe on a more united note, so what better way to highlight that connection than to have things from this animated show carry over into the live-action projects? It's great to include the same heroes and villains, use the same actors and all those details, but to really make it feel like a unified DCU, Gunn needs to make sure smaller details and plots connect also. So make Circe scarred Creature Commandscan be a great transition that leads to an eventual Wonder Woman project where Circe returns with those same scars.
If that happens, it could help generate more interest in the shows that establish these details and make the larger DCU a fuller, richer experience. Especially since there may be many people who approach the DCU with caution after the failures of the DCEU, and thus may avoid small, seemingly insignificant projects like Creature Commands. By filling in the details in these shows and showing that things happen and change as influenced by them, it could help make the entire DCU a stronger franchise, with connected storytelling and clever throughlines, so I, for one, vote that Circe should keep the scars after Creature Commands.
