The confirmed appearance of a crypto in Superman Has built excitement, but it can also be setting a devastating Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow storyline. Production on the DCU Superman The reboot starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan is underway ahead of its expected release in 2025. Director James Gunn has provided a handful of updates along the way, including an official look at Corenswet in character. Gunn shared a poster on social media From Korenswet’s Clark you can sit and watch Earth from space. By his side is his dog Krypto, also known as Superdog in the DC Comics.
Gunn mentioned that he was inspired to include Krypto the Superdog in the DCU because of his own dog, and he confirmed the character’s upcoming appearance in Superman. Crypto set up for the DCU is an exciting development as Clark’s furry companion hasn’t had a chance to shine in past live-action projects. However, there is one comic storyline that will possibly be adapted for the big screen down the line, and that would mean that Krypto will suffer in the DCU.
Krypto’s DCU introduction before Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow sets up a brutal comic story
Krypto is confirmed to appear in Superman
yet Supermans release in 2025, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Starring Milly Alcock is set to release the following year in 2026. Although no specifics about the plot are known yet, fans can guess what the storyline will be based on the film’s title. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow was a limited comic series that ran from 2021 to 2022, with Kara setting out on a mission alongside alien girl Ruthye to seek revenge on a shared enemy.
Krypto is a notable character in the first issue, appearing as Kara’s loyal sidekick. However, the first issue ends with Krypto’s impending death, leading Kara to begin her journey in order to find a cure to the poison that is set to kill him.
Krypto is shot with a poisonous arrow by the antagonist CreamAnd Supergirl joins Ruthye on her mission in order to try and save Krypt’s life. In the comics, Krypto joined forces with Kara after his stint on Earth with Clark, thus the fact that the Superdog is debuting in the DCU Superman Line up with the comic timeline. Nothing is confirmed, but crypto’s appearance in Superman Raises the possibility of the dog also being a prominent character in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Kara’s origins have always been darker than Clark’s
Based on what has already been said about Supergirl: Woman of TomorrowIt would make sense if the film adapted the comic crypto storyline. Gunn previously said the film would be a darker look at SupergirlAnd while Supergirl has made her fair share of live-action appearances, Woman of tomorrow will be the first film to explore Kara’s darker origins. Clark and Kara share similarities as they are both Kryptonians adapting to life on Earth, but Kara obviously has a much darker path to Earth than her cousin.

Kara witnessed her planet and people being destroyed in front of her eyes. She was then sent to Earth to protect her cousin, only to find out that Clark really didn’t need her at all. Kara’s story is full of sadness and loneliness As she tries to find her place in the world, what fuels her to join Ruthye on her mission. Still, that aspect of the comic storyline would definitely be intense, but would motivate Kara’s story and match up with what Gunn has been teasing about the film.
DCU’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Story has a silver lining for crypto
Krypto finally survives in the comics
Crypto’s appearance in Superman Doesn’t mean the Superdog is doomed in the DCU. If Supergirl doesn’t appear in Superman And is already in space after the destruction of her planet, then Krypto being on Earth with Clark could mean that he will avoid his fate. In that case, there’s a chance Gunn will avoid adapting that part of the storyline. Considering how passionate Gunn is with animals and how much care he handled his Guardians of the Galaxy Animal characters, he will definitely have Crypt’s best interest at heart.
Krypto’s fate in the comics is a big part of Kara’s story Woman of tomorrowSo it wouldn’t be a surprise if that part of the story was actually adapted to the big screen. However, the three revealed in the last Woman of tomorrow Matter is that Krypto is actually nice and Kara lied to Ruthye To teach you a lesson about dwelling on the past. Depending on how comic-specific Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Ends up being and crypto’s whereabouts yet SupermanThere is still a lot of hope for Clark and Kara’s furry companions to see another day.
