DandadanThe anime adaptation was everything fans dreamed of and more. Studio Sciene SARU’s highly stylized visuals mixed with the series’ original concepts and stunning artwork are a perfect marriage, combining to create one of the best and most exciting series of the year. In its seventh episode, titled “To a Kinder World”, the anime presents another one of Dandadanbiggest strengths: their carefully crafted and emotionally charged backstories.
The series’ notable character depth was only hinted at in earlier episodes of the anime, through Turbo Granny’s true reason for haunting the tunnel, and in the relationship between Momo and Okarun. But the tragic backstory of the recently introduced Acrobatic Silky marks the first moment in which the series really stretches its legs in terms of writing. And the Dandadan The anime nails it in its adaptation of the terrifying Yokai’s incredibly moving origin.

The moment Acrobatic Silky arrived on the scene and demanded that Aira refer to her as ‘Mommy’ in episode 6, it became evident that she was going to become more than just another “monster of the week”. After his defeat at the hands of Momo and Okarun, realizing that his precious surrogate daughter is dead, Acrobatic Silky decides sacrifice your own aura to save Aira. What follows is one of the most moving and visually stunning sequences anime has had to offer in recent years.
Fans of DandadanThe original manga are well aware of the series’ propensity to occasionally devastate its readers, but those who experience its story through the anime may not be prepared for the abrupt change in tone. Being forced to hold down multiple jobs, including sex work, human Acrobatic Silky saw her daughter as her main reason to keep going. The anime, in a montage of the time they spent together, makes a excellent job of communicating the love between thembefore destroying her peaceful little life in a harrowing way.
Fortunately, Aira is able to send the Yokai to the afterlife with a heartfelt goodbye, ending Dandadanthe first and main emotional story. The anime has already proven itself capable of capturing the series’ humor and over-the-top action, and has now expertly adapted its drama as well.

The impressive animation of the series is present even in silent moments
While Dandadan is making waves with its exceptionally new and strange story, the series’ stunning visuals are what seems to have really caught the attention of the anime viewing community. From the smooth animation to the unique use of color, Science SARU has done nothing but impress on a weekly basis. Although Acrobatic Silky’s story didn’t offer any flashy action, the quiet, intimate direction of the flashback sequence just added to a tragic story that the manga already told so impressively.
The somber piano keys come courtesy of series composer Kensuke Ushio, who has also lent his talents to anime such as A silent voiceand chainsaw manmixed perfectly in Dandadanthe saddest moment so far. Manga readers know that Acrobatic Silky’s story isn’t the only one the series has in store, and the anime adaptation will likely handle any future emotional moments with a similar level of quality. If Dandadan hadn’t yet convinced the masses to tune in, its seventh episode certainly should.
Two high school students, involved in a bet to prove the existence of ghosts or aliens, encounter frightening paranormal threats, acquire superpowers and possibly discover love. The series combines supernatural elements with personal dynamics as the protagonists navigate their new abilities and unexpected challenges.
