The 2024 remake of The Crow Seems to have fallen short of the 1994 original movie starring the late Brandon Lee in many ways, but there is one element that is better. The CrowThe debut Rotten Tomatoes score indicates that it is a far cry from the iconic gothic noir movie of the 1990s, which was a critical and commercial success on its release and became a beloved cult classic. The CrowThe cast is led by Bill Skarsgård in the role of Eric Draven, and while he did his best with the role, the story itself fell flat.

While the remake kept most of the main plot points of the original, 2024 The Crow Gives more perspective on the supernatural elements of the original story. Many of the changes made to the overarching story contribute to the complaints of critics and moviegoers, specifically relating to the villain of the movie and the powers of Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd’s Eric Draven. The Crow 2024 better explores the relationship and romance of Eric & Shelly than in 1994

It adds more background to their deep connection

Bill Skarsgard as Eric By a Fire with FKA Twigs as Shelly Webster in The Crow 2024

The Crow Remake doesn’t open with the brutal violence that set Eric Draven on his revenge in the original 1994. Instead diving right into the murders of both Eric and his fiancee, Shelly Webster (FCA Twigs), THe crowed 2024 gives the backstory of how Eric and Shelly met and fell in love. The two met in an institution for unfortunate youth; Eric is sent there after years of suffering from an abusive mother and trauma has taken its toll, while Shelly intentionally gets herself arrested to escape a crime boss out to kill her for an incriminating video in her possession.

The intention to show how Eric and Shelly meet and fall in love is clear. By understanding how deep their romantic and spiritual connection is, the audience can win A better appreciation for the circumstances that allow the Crow to bring someone back from the dead. Knowing how important Shelley was to Eric, along with how deeply troubled he was before he met her, helps provide some context for his violent revenge. There is actually a sensible reason to explore an element of the original; Whether it was executed effectively is a separate debate.

The Crow 2024 still struggles to get over Shelly and Eric’s relationship

The chemistry is unfortunately lacking

Despite the sensible intentions behind showing more of Eric and Shelly’s relationship before they were both brutally murdered, the early scenes in the movie didn’t really have the desired effect. There is a laundry list of problems to point to The Crow 2024, but the one that most impacts the beginning of the movie is The lack of chemistry between Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd and FKA Twigs. It’s not even necessarily their fault; Their relationship isn’t given much in the way of depth, and as a result their romance feels more quirky and cute than deep and passionate.

Providing the background behind why Shelley was marked for death takes away the senselessness of the crime, and makes the couple’s deaths feel less like a cosmic injustice and more like a common symptom of organized crime.

While The Crow 2024 was the original in showing the development of the relationship, it is difficult to definitively say that it was an improvement on how the original featured their relationship. By making the crime feel more random and senseless, the original movie painted a clear picture of why the deaths of Eric and Shelley were considered “wrong to be right.“By providing the background behind why Shelley was marked for death, it takes away the senselessness, and makes the couple’s deaths feel less like a cosmic injustice and more like a common symptom of organized crime.
