The Chainsaw Man Reveals The Key Difference Between The Two Main Characters And Why Denji Is Still The Protagonist

Contains spoilers for Chainsaw Man chapter #178

Chainsaw Man has always thrived on his unpredictability, and as of the latest chapter #178, titled, “Gun Goddess,” that remains as true as ever. When Yoru gets yet another power up, devastating the city with an attack courtesy of the Statue of Liberty, Chainsaw Man Also takes the opportunity to highlight its dual protagonists, Denji and Asa. And their devil counterparts.

Yoru, the war devil, and Chainsaw Man, the hero of Hell, are now fighting in the open streets of Tokyo, both at their maximum power. And although the action was electric fast, with the magnificent goodness of the chainsaw man and Yoru’s new weapon arms, the author Tatsuki Fujimoto is not allowed a chance to examine his two main characters.

The two devils, who have merged into Denji and Asa respectively, are symbolic of the letters to which they belong. Although similar in their monstrous state of being, They represent fundamentally different ideals and personalities which make themselves clear as they fight. Denji, who has been the savior of mankind since he became a devil hunter, is flanked by the hero of hell, the devil that devils love most. Meanwhile, Asa, shown to be largely standoffish and distrustful of humans, is supported by the War Devil, Yoru, who shows No concern for human life.

Asa finally remembers who Yoru really is

The terrifying power of the war devil shakes Asa to the core

Asa remembers that Yoru is a devil in Chainsaw Man chapter 178

before to Chainsaw Mans current arc, both Asa and Denji enjoyed somewhat equal time in the series’ spotlight. As the story progresses, however, the focus shifts largely to Denji, and Asa’s perspective becomes less and less prevalent. become mostly disengaged with the surrounding events, Yoru was able to rise to power as Asa went with the flowStrengthened by the growing fears of the crowd.

Now, just launched what is likely the most powerful attack Chainsaw Man Has Asa ever seen, Asa gets scared, remembers only who she is with in a body. Like Denji and Pochita in the past, a growing relationship between Asa and Yoru was all but promised in part two. And though it started off a little rough, the fearsome War Devil eventually grew to call Asa by her name and even became somewhat considerate of her feelings.

Yoru is not Pochita, though. The hulking, terrifying chainsaw man learned to love and feel the embrace of another through his relationship with Denji, the two standing on equal footing in a way that was almost sibling-like. In stark contrast, Yoru and Asa’s relationship is something closer to a struggle for control. Yoru only cares about Asa when it is beneficial to her, and vice versaAs in a life-and-death situation that poses or in danger. After being complacent in sharing half of himself, Asa is now afraid of what Yoru might do.

Denji and Asa are fundamentally different, and their devils reflect that

As Pochita and War fight, Denji and Asa’s differences reveal themselves

Denji, although he may not seem like a great protagonist, has been painted as a hero of the people throughout the majority of Chainsaw Man. This is most evident during his fight with the Aki-Gan Fiend, when ordinary people on the street feed him blood in order to revive him. Recently, in chapter #178, This panel is early mirrored as the aging Devil feeds Pochita blood in the same way. However, just one chapter earlier, Chainsaw Man refuses to hurt an innocent girl for blood, instead choosing to humorously wave a sign for a blood drive.

Chainsaw Man was saved in similar situations on two separate occasions.

Like Denji, Pochita’s main targets are devils, and it can be inferred that the hero of Hell will refuse the opportunity to feast on the Aging Devil, as this would cause the death of innocent children, directly clashing with Denji’s morals. In Asa’s case, she was consistently cold and callous to othersAnd this is reflected in Yoru being an evil, completely unhinged foe of the apocalypse, who is willing to destroy sections of a major city for her ego-fueled action. Not only are the two main devils now clashing, but so are the ideals of their human counterparts.

Trying to predict the events of Chainsaw Man is a bit like trying to change the weather; It is not possible. But as more focus is placed on the core differences between the two protagonists of the story, it is not far-fetched to predict that Asa’s realization of Yoru’s horrifying behavior could somehow affect the War Devil’s tirade. A sudden moral shift can only slow Yoru down, allowing for Chainsaw Man to make a quick comeback in upcoming chapters.

Chainsaw Man is an adaptation of the popular manga written by Tatsuki Fujimoto, arriving on Crunchyroll in the West.
