Although there is no doubt that Monk He was a genius, many of his cases would have gone unsolved without the help of his brilliant assistants, Sharona Fleming and Natalie Teeger. Sharona and Natalie became part of Monk's life and the complexity with which it resolves its cases. It's hard to imagine Monk without the two assistants because they were a big part of the show.
Despite the similar vocation, Sharona and Natalie had several differenceseven within your job description. When Bitty Schram's Sharona Left MonkTraylor Howard's Natalie was able to shine in her new role as Monk's assistant because she could help Monk in a different way. As Monk learned to deal with his grief after Trudy Monk's murder, both women were by his side, but in their own ways. Their differences made each character the perfect companion for Monk's brilliant abilities.
Sharona was Adrian's practical nurse, Natalie was his assistant
Monk didn't need an assistant before Trudy's death
Sharona was first introduced alongside Monk in Monk pilot episode as Monk's nurse/assistant. After Monk's wife Trudy was killed, Monk was absolutely devastated to the point where he had a complete breakdown and had to leave the police force. His friend, Captain Stottlemeyer, hired Sharona as Monk's personal nurse to help him after his loss. Over time, Sharona also became Monk's assistant, helping him with daily tasks and solving cases. Sharona helped Monk come out of the darkest time of his life and is considered to have saved his life.
When Sharona left, Natalie took her place as Adrian's much-needed assistant, but she was different from Sharona. Unlike his predecessor, Monk found Natalie alone. Although Stottlemeyer attempted to find a replacement for Sharona, it was Monk who recruited Natalie after she became involved in a case he was working on. Natalie was also Monk's exclusive assistant. Without formal medical training, Natalie could not take on Sharona's medical duties. Happily, Monk was at a point in his mental health where he no longer needed a nursemaking Natalie the perfect replacement.
Sharona and Natalie helped Monk in different but equally important ways
Natalie helped Monk expand his circle of friends
Sharona and Natalie were two of Monk's amazing assistants, but they each helped him in different ways. Sharona helped Monk understand that he was capable of living a full life after the loss of his wife. She helped him return to his daily routines and reignited his interest in solving crimes. Without Sharona, Monk would not have had the strength to return to work. Even though she was just on Monk for three seasons, of course Sharona was an excellent but sometimes difficult assistant.
Natalie was also an extremely important person in Monk's life. She gave Monk the warmth he was missing in his life. Natalie had it easier with Monk and more like a friend. She also helped Monk expand his circle of friends and try new things, something he was too afraid to do in previous seasons of Monk. Both women had a lasting impact on Monk, and while he could have been more grateful, it's still clear that he cared deeply for them.
