During the show, Sam and his family often posted on social media that only one side of the story was being told, and that Sam was getting a bad edit. Jenn even called him out on it during the “Men Tell All” episode. While Devin’s actions against Jen that were revealed in the season finale don’t excuse Sam’s bad behavior, they do make one wonder if there was more to the story when it came to his conflict with Devin. However, Sam used violent language when talking about Devin, saying he would snap him in half, and he would step on his neck.
While Devin deeply hurt Jen, Sam did too. He didn’t listen to her feelings when he forced her to jump from the Oakland Sky Tower, and he couldn’t explain to her why he loved her. Sam also tells her that he thought either Daisy Kent or Maria Georgas would be the Bachelorette. As Sam said, Devin being a villain doesn’t make Sam a good guy. However, it is definitely possible that Devin was one of those Bachelorette Season 21 bad guy all along, but he got a good edit because of the engagement.
