Chip Kidd and Michael Cho team up for new graphic novel
There are many reasons to be excited about MarvelArts’ new comic book, but chief among them is the creative team. Chip Kidd is unquestionably one of the greatest graphic designers of all time, and his books on the history of comics are a must-read for anyone interested in the medium. Michael Cho is also one of the most prominent cover artists working in the field today. Although Cho has drawn many covers for Marvel and DC, he rarely draws interiors, so getting a full comic book illustrated by the artist will be a rare treat..
Chip Kidd talks a little about the new project, expressing surprise at the chances that both Marvel and Abrams allowed him to take:
“Writing this book was just an excuse to see Michael Cho portrays a glorious, epic, jaw-dropping sequential narrative featuring these iconic characters we love so much. He more than delivered. Oh, and it was also my last comic book ego trip that Abrams and Marvel really allowed me to take. I still don’t know why, but I’m so grateful.“
Michael Cho also talks about the opportunity to work with Kidd, explaining how drawing a classic Avengers story has always been a dream:
“I’ve always had a special place in my superhero-loving heart for the Avengers, especially for the Marvel-era comics in which they appeared. The Veracity Trap is a tribute to wonder, delight and the absurd ‘anything can happen!’ spirit of these stories. Chip wrote a fantastic and moving story, and when drawing this book, I tried my best to channel some of the energy and, most importantly, the joy that burst from the pages of those classic comics.“
Having Chip Kidd and Michael Cho team up to pay homage to the Marvel Comics Era is a dream team in many ways, but the the added metatextual touch hinted at in the story should add a deeper touch than a mere superhero pastiche.
The Avengers embark on a “reality-bending adventure”
The truthfulness trap Should be more than average superhero fare
Chip Kidd previously wrote the graphic novel Batman: Death by Design with artist Dave Taylor in 2015, then the celebrated graphic designer of the original Jurassic Park romance and much more can happen in the Marvel Universe with the new comic book that will be released next year. Like “distort reality“The new Avengers-starring adventure remains to be seen, but with solicitations promising an exploration of “heroism, villainy and existence”, we hope it will be quite a journey.
