From Navarro's chest in Alien: Romulus to the degradation of Monster Elisasue on stage in The substancethe horror films of 2024 were exploding with blood and gore. This has been a truly fantastic year for horror films. I saw the glow of the TV dealt with moving social themes, A peaceful place: first day offered a surprisingly character-driven perspective on the apocalypse, and Trap I saw M. Night Shyamalan at his Shyamalan-iest (for better or worse).
And 2024 didn't just produce great horror films; delivered blood-soaked horror films. Long legs There's a scene where the serial killer of the same name paints a police interrogation room with his own blood. Under Paris There's a scene where triathlon-worthy swimmers are served to a hungry shark. This year's horror films have offered up some extremely bloody sequences.

The Triathlon Massacre

As the bloodthirsty shark Lilith enters the River Seine in Under Paristhe city's corrupt mayor - in the tradition of Jaws' Mayor Vaughn - refuses to cancel an upcoming triathlon because she would rather risk the lives of her citizens than lose any business or advertising. Not surprisingly, this decision comes back to bother her when Lilith arrives at the scene while swimming. With a buffet of swimmers to enjoy, Lilith celebrates.
The Seine turns red with blood as Lilith fights her way through dozens of swimmers. There's a great aerial shot of Lilith bursting to the surface with an unsuspecting swimmer trapped in her jaws. This sequel plays out like a much bloodier and gratuitous version of Jaws'beach scene. Jaws I didn't have the money or CGI to kill so many people.

Aurora's death
In a violent nature
While killer Johnny goes on a teenage murder spree reminiscent of classic slashers, there are a lot of brutal deaths in In a violent nature. Colt is killed with an ax. Ehren is tied to a tree with a hand saw. Ranger has his head cut off with a wood chopper. But the film's most gruesome death is saved for Aurora. Aurora's death could have been split into a few different deaths, but she had the misfortune of putting them all in a row.
Johnny corners Aurora on the edge of a cliff. As she tries to escape, he stabs her in the stomach, then drives the hook into her head and pulls the chain through her body, breaking her spine and pulling her head through her stomach. It's one of the most creative kills in the entire slasher genre.

For the most part, Osgood Perkins Long legs It's not so much gory as it is disturbing. He terrifies his audience by showing them the aftermath of horrific murders and the events surrounding them, and not so much the murders themselves. It's another chilling crime thriller like The Silence of the Lambs Than a blood-soaked killer like A Nightmare on Elm Street. But there is a shockingly bloody sequence halfway through the film.
After “Long Legs” killer Dale Ferdinand Kobble is captured, Lee joins him in an interrogation room to interrogate him, but she doesn't get much information from him. All he tells her is that he serves Satan before slamming his own face into the table, taking his own life in a horrible way. He paints the room with his own blood – talk about a shocking sequence.

The chest in the original Foreigner The film is one of the most iconic bloody sequences in the history of horror cinema. He pushed the limits of on-screen bloodshed and really caught audiences off guard in 1979. 45 years later, Fede Álvarez managed to take the blood even further with his own sickening chest explosion sequence in Alien: Romulus. As soon as a facehugger latched onto Navarro, longtime fans of the franchise knew she was doomed.
Within moments, a baby xenomorph is trying to force its way out of your chest. Thanks to a nifty scanning device, Navarro is able to watch the silhouette of his own rib cage being destroyed by the tiny alien. Kay frantically tries to help her friend before a cloud of blood explodes in her face. This scene was spoiled by the trailer, but it's still extremely strong.

Monster Elisasue takes the stage
The substance
Coralie Fargeat's first feature film, Revengeit ended with a bloodbath, so it was suitable for his second film, The substanceto end with another bloodbath. When Sue starts to break down the day before her live TV performance, she rushes home to try and fix the problem. She ignores the Substance's rules and takes the Activator serum a second time, only to be reincarnated as "Monster Elisasue", a grotesque amalgamation of all the absurd male fantasies that were mentioned by the despicable Hollywood suits throughout the film.
The hideous spectacle of Monster Elisasue is one of the greatest prosthetic effects in the history of body horror. As she takes the stage in front of horrified spectators, she begins to disintegrate and sprays liters of blood onto the audience. This blood-soaked ending is reminiscent of Brian De Palma's prom scene. Carrie; It's sickeningly horrible, but also deeply tragic.
