superhero movies UCMthe UDCand other franchises often feature post-credits scenes, but some of them are truly horrible. Long before the MCU films made the genre the most successful in modern cinema, superhero films adapted characters and stories from popular comic books for the big screen. With many iconic heroes appearing in live-action films, the superhero genre has always been one of Hollywood's grandest.
One of the staples of the genre is the inclusion of a post-credits stinger to tease future sequels or narratives. The popular MCU post-credits scenes may have popularized the phenomenon, but they existed in the years before the franchise. Unfortunately, not all of them are of the highest quality, with many provocative events never happening or even struggling to make sense. With that in mind, here are the 10 Worst Superhero Movie Post-Credits Scenes of All Time, Ranked.
10
Dr Sivana meets Mr Lie
Shazam! (2019)
Although the DCEU's movie timeline proved to be short-lived, it did feature plenty of memorable moments. 2019 Shazam! stood out to many as one of the best films in the franchise, as it brought much-needed levity to the DCEU after a series of brave and controversial releases. However, the film's post-credits scene was notably bad, especially when reconsidered in retrospect after the death of the DCEU.
The scene shows the film's villain, Doctor Sivana, arrested after being captured by Billy Batson. While lying in his cell, Sivana is approached by another villain, who initially appears to be little more than a disembodied voice. He is then revealed to be Mister Mind, an evil alien caterpillar. While Mister Mind is an interesting addition, he never made a full appearance in the DCEU. As such, the post-credits scene is simply a dead-end teaser for a future that never occurredand it looks especially uninteresting as a result.

Thor and Jane kiss
Thor: The Dark World (2013)
The MCU movie timeline is positively packed with incredible post-credits moments, but not all of the franchise's final points are so impressive. Thor: The Dark World features one of the worst post-credits scenes in the MCU, although it didn't look that bad in the film's initial release. The scene simply shows Thor arriving at Jane Foster's house, with the two reuniting and kissing.
Seeing the pair reconcile may have initially seemed like a positive development, but subsequent films recast it in a worse light. After the post-credits scene, Jane Foster has been absent from Thor's subsequent appearances in the MCUit being explained that the pair broke up off-screen. This makes the scene seem completely pointless in retrospect, making it one of the worst in the MCU, even after Jane's eventual reappearance in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Superman races against the Flash
Justice League (2017)
The DCEU reached a crisis point with the release of Justice League in 2017, as it ended up being one of the most unpopular films in the franchise. There have been many criticisms of the film, although its final moments continue to stand out as some of the most frustrating. One of the film's post-credits scenes in particular is especially bad, partly due to the nature of the scene and partly due to the broader context of the DCEU.
The scene in question shows the Flash and Superman preparing for a race to determine which of them is the fastest. In principle, it is a joyful moment that should dispel some of the seriousness of the Justice Leaguethe story. Unfortunately, Not only does it feel inconsistent with the rest of the film, but no insight into what the duo's run was like is offeredespecially since Superman has not made any other significant appearances in the franchise other than brief cameos.
7
Baba Yaga plans revenge
Hellboy (2019)
2019 hell boy served as a cinematic reboot for the titular Dark Horse Comics character of the same name, following the two popular and successful films made by Guillermo del Toro and starring Ron Perlman. The reboot saw David Harbor cast as the paranormal investigator, although he proved inferior to his predecessors. The film's post-credits scene was as disappointing as the film itself, teasing a sequel that was destined not to happen.
The scene shows the return of Baba Yaga, who Hellboy visits and tricks at the beginning of the film. She swears revenge on Hellboy, enlisting the help of a disembodied voice as the camera remains fixed on her. The scene alone failed to impress, offering very little context for its own provocation. Even worse, the sequence created was never made, being discarded due to hell boypoor reception.
6
Morbius meets the vulture
Morbius (2022)
Morbius was one of the most talked about films in Sony's Spider-Man universe, although not for particularly positive reasons. The film's problems were numerous and remain well known, though its final sting was one of its most confusing and pointless elements. MorbiusThe post-credits scene saw Michael Keaton's Vulture crossing over into the Sony Universe, meeting the titular vampire and establishing a Six Sinisters film with the duo.
The first of two post-credits scenes explained the arrival of Adrian Toomes into the universe, passing from the MCU in a moment that made very little sense and was poorly explained. The second showed the two Spider-Man villains meeting, planning a partnership in a universe with no confirmed Spider-Man. Whereas SSU was later canceled following the poor reception of its films – including Morbius – the scene looks especially bad in retrospect.
5
Drunk Aquaman lying in a puddle
The Flash (2023)
The DCEU The Flash gave the hero his first solo film and, despite mixed reception, it was relatively successful. Following The FlashTowards the end of the film, the film's post-credits scene was especially disappointing. Having embarked on a multiversal adventure through time, Barry Allen returned to his present to find himself in an altered timeline. The ensuing post-credits scene showed Barry leaving a bar with a drunken Aquaman, who immediately fell into a puddle.
The scene did nothing to reference the film's intriguing ending, but it did introduce Aquaman before his final appearance in the DCEU. However, it also did nothing to configure Aquaman and the Lost Kingdombut instead it reduced the hero to an inconsequential joke that didn't go over very well. The post-credits scene of The Flash didn't connect with either of them The Flashthe history or future of the DCEUmaking him especially poor as a result.
4
Orm eats cockroaches
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom served as the final DCEU film, marking the end of the franchise after a decade of behind-the-scenes turmoil. The film itself received a lukewarm reception, but its post-credits scene was the cause of much debate. The scene showed Orm eating a hamburger on the surface, then catching a cockroach and eating it with his meal, in a callback to an earlier joke in which Arthur tricks his brother into believing that insects are a surface delicacy.
The joke isn't funny, mainly because it simply continues a joke from earlier in the film. What's worse, in the DCEU's final moments, many believed that Aquaman and the Lost KingdomThe post-credits scene could offer some significant insights into the death of the franchise or possibly the future of the DCU. Instead of, it offered nothing more than a relatively juvenile joke that had no real meaning whatsoever.
3
Professor X steals his secret twin's body
X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
Widely considered one of Fox's worst X-Men films, X-Men: The Last Stand It was a film with many problems. In addition to killing off several beloved X-Men characters in a disheartening way, The last Standthe story was confusing and incoherent. This continued into the film's post-credits scene, which added an absurd caveat to the film that felt cheap and undeserved, especially after the events of The last Standnarrative.
After his death at the hands of Dark Phoenix, it is revealed that Professor X preserved his consciousness through telepathy. The post-credits scene shows him revealing himself to a doctor, identified as Moira McTaggert, who explains that he was inhabiting the body of his previously unnamed comatose twin brother. The scene seemed very convenient and somewhat offensive to the audience's intelligenceoffering a cheap sequel tease that The last Stand I just didn't deserve it.
2
Blade drives a car
Blade: Trinity (2004)
Just as superhero films were breaking into mainstream Hollywood, Blade: Trinity was released. The third film led by Wesley Snipes Blade trilogy, Trinity was a marked disappointment compared to its predecessors, gaining little popularity as a result. The film also featured a post-credits scene, which, by today's standards, is one of the worst in the history of the superhero genre.
The scene showed Blade driving a car silently into the night. The short scene simply followed the vampire hunter as he wordlessly drove to his next adventure, confirming his survival and teasing a potential cinematic future. Judging by comparisons to other films in the genre, the scene is ridiculously lackluster, as it offers absolutely nothing to the overall experience of the film. Released as Blade: Trinity was, before post-credits scenes became the norm, so perhaps it's not surprising that this pales in comparison to many other post-credits scenes.
1
Deadpool's severed head speaks
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a controversial film, as the poor handling of certain characters was offset by a handful of memorable and well-executed action scenes. The film's treatment of Deadpool served as an unshakable black mark against his reputation, as it completely underestimated the need for comedic accuracy regarding the character. X-Men Origins: WolverineDeadpool's post-credits scene saw the decapitated Deadpool return to life, silencing the audience as his eyes opened once more.
The scene teased the return of one of the most reviled Marvel movie characters in history. The film adaptation of Deadpool remains utterly despised, and the tease that he might return is still baffling in its naivety, even years later. As a result, X-Men Origins: Wolverine boasts the unenviable prize of having the worst post-credits scene in any of the superhero films in the UCMthe UDCand all other similar franchises.
