The 10 Most Exciting Theories About His Return to Star Wars After Ahsoka Season 2

Grand Admiral Thrawn
came back after Ahsokaand here are ten of the most exciting theories about his return. End Ahsoka saw Anakin Skywalker’s former Padawan fail in his mission to prevent Grand Admiral Thrawn from returning to home Star wars galaxy. Luckily, her ally Ezra Bridger took a ride on Thrawn’s flagship, the Chimera, and alerted the New Republic. However, Thrawn’s return undoubtedly heralds a new era of Imperial terror.

Thrawn is now positioned as the main villain The Mandalorian erareflecting its importance for Star wars Legends – where Timothy Zahn’s popular “Thrawn trilogy” took the franchise back to the 90s. The only alien to achieve the rank of Grand Admiral in the Imperial Army, Thrawn was considered in canon to be one of two Imperial strategists who could stop the Rebel Alliance from winning the Galactic Civil War. Now there’s everything to play for, as these exciting theories about his return show.

Grand Admiral Thrawn uses Ysalamiri against the Jedi

Will the Ysalamiri be able to move from legend to canon?

Thrawn from Star Wars Rebels stands in front of the Ysalamiri sculptures

Grand Admiral Thrawn is a different type of villain, a military tactician rather than a Force-sensitive servant of the dark side. Strength has often been portrayed as his main weakness, responsible for his greatest defeats in canon. it would make sense for him to find a way to protect himself. Fortunately, one aspect Star wars Legends may well be accessible to him.

Isalamiri teased Star Wars Rebels.

In Legends, creatures known as ysalamiri evolved in a world where the Force was used by predators. They developed an unusual evolutionary defense by creating bubbles around themselves in which it was impossible to access or use the Force. Isalamiri teased Star Wars Rebelswith a mural depicting them behind Thrawn himself, and it would be interesting to see how he uses them in the future.

Thrawn is based in a familiar bad location

A perfect tribute to the Thrawn trilogy.

In Legends, Grand Admiral Thrawn settled on Weyland, one of Palpatine’s most secret facilities, where he conducted sinister cloning experiments. Wayland debuted in canon in Star Wars: The Bad Batchwhich wove the experiments into the story of Project Necromancer, the research that ultimately resurrected Palpatine. The project name “Necromancer” was mentioned The Mandalorian Season 3, confirming that it has been reactivated in The Mandalorian era, and it would be no surprise that Wayland would become important again.

Does this mean Thrawn will be stationed in Weyland? It would be exciting to see Weyland make a live-action appearance, and it would be a delightful tribute to both the original Thrawn trilogy and Bad Batch. This particular theory does seem very likely, considering there have been interviews in which Lucasfilm bosses discussed Tantiss’ canonical appearance as a setup.

Imperial Civil War against Thrawn himself

Is Thrawn truly loyal to the Empire?

For the Empire,“Thrawn states in Ahsokaand the choice of word hints at his loyalty; Many figures within the Empire believed in the ideas behind it and resented the Sith, who they believed were corrupting it. Thrawn may (or may not) be loyal to the Empire, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s loyal to Palpatine. In fact, Timothy Zahn’s canonical novels suggest Thrawn saw the Empire as a means to an end.and even extracted people who he believed would be more useful to his people, the Chiss, than to the Emperor.

The Chiss live in the Unknown Regions, a vast unexplored part of the galaxy – exactly where the Empire retreated after its defeat. It’s easy to imagine the Imperial Remnant (and the nascent First Order it has become) clashing with the Chiss, leading to a huge problem for Thrawn given his conflicting loyalties. Could Thrawn’s return to the main galaxy actually initiate something like an Imperial civil war between Thrawn’s forces and Palpatine’s supporters?

7

Thrawn will strike Mandalore

A resurgent Mandalore poses a threat to the Empire

The Mandalorian Season three ended with the Mandalorians reclaiming their ancestral homeworld, rebuilding Mandalore, and overthrowing Moff Gideon. This was exactly the outcome that the Imperial Shadow Council feared most, as it would lead to the rebirth of a new power in the very region of space where the Empire was trying to rebuild itself. Thrawn settled on Dathomir, which by cosmic standards is not that far from Mandalore.

This may well explain Mandalore’s absence from Star wars continuation of the trilogy – in its darkest form.

Does this foreshadow a new conflict between the Empire and Mandalore? This would help explain why characters like Din Djarin are so important in the current era; because Mandalore will be at the forefront of the war against Thrawn’s resurgent Empire. However, there is likely no Mandalorian strategist who can counter Thrawn, so this may well explain Mandalore’s absence from Star wars continuation of the trilogy – in its darkest form.

6

Thrawn will be responsible for the New Republic’s departure from Coruscant

Why is the New Republic leaving Coruscant?

The Mandalorian era made it clear that the New Republic had settled in the former galactic capital of Coruscant. This is actually quite strange, because in the sequel trilogy, the capital of the New Republic was Hosnian Prime – a planet destroyed by the First Order in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. So why did the New Republic leave Coruscant?

One exciting theory suggests that this is exactly the story. Star wars preparing to speak with Grand Admiral Thrawn. In Legends, Thrawn launched a terrifying attack on Coruscant. Although he was repulsed, the Grand Admiral came up with an innovative strategy to essentially take Coruscant out of the war; he launched an undetermined number of cloaked asteroids into orbit, making it unsafe for any ships to arrive at or depart from Coruscant. Could he have done something even more dramatic in canon?

5

Thrawn is always up to date thanks to the Great Mothers

Will the New Republic have time to respond to Thrawn’s return?

Grand Admiral Thrawn was created as a twisted version of Sherlock Holmes, meaning that the secret to his strategic success lies in his analytical and deductive abilities. In theory, this should give the New Republic some breathing space before its forces clash with the resurgent Empire under Thrawn’s command. The galaxy has changed a lot since Thrawn was banished from the main universe. Star wars galaxy before the start of the Galactic Civil War.

But was Thrawn really in the know thanks to his allies, the Great Mothers? Ahsoka They said that all these years they had a psychic connection with Morgan Elsbeth, they helped her coordinate the construction of the Eye of Zion and ultimately brought her to Peridea. The Great Mothers could easily scout the galaxy on Thrawn’s behalf, gathering information for him. Worse, he may be well aware of the secrets of the New Republic simply because they probed the minds of senators or military leaders. So much time to breathe.

4

Grand Admiral Thrawn resurrects dead Imperial soldiers across the galaxy

An army of the undead is rising across the galaxy?

Ahsoka revealed how dangerous Thrawn’s allies really are: the Great Mothers actually resurrect dead stormtroopers as the Night Troopers, an undead army used to apprehend Ahsoka and prevent her and Sabine from making the trip to the Eye of Zion. It is interesting to note that all of these Night Soldiers wore red ribbons, signifying that they had undergone the rituals of the Nightsisters before they died. However, there is no reason why the Great Mothers could not perform similar rituals on the dead and raise an army throughout the galaxy.

The Great Mothers could potentially create an army of zombies that would scour the galaxy.

The Empire recruited countless legions of stormtroopers from across the galaxy and considered them completely expendable. This means that the entire galaxy is littered with stormtrooper corpses after the Galactic Civil War, and the Great Mothers could potentially create a zombie army that scours the galaxy. This would be a truly terrifying possible strategy for Thrawn, but, disturbingly, it is clearly foreshadowed at the end Ahsoka.

3

Thrawn and the Nightsisters will turn against each other

Could Thrawn’s alliance go wrong?

The Nightsisters of Dathomir made their canon debut in Star Wars: The Clone Warsand the relationship between the Sith and the Nightsisters has always been particularly contentious – Darth Sidious even tried to destroy them before he founded the Empire. At least one Nightsister, the assassin Deathstick, dedicated her life to overthrowing the Empire after learning that Palpatine was responsible for the atrocity. Could Thrawn’s alliance collapse?

Ahsoka foreshadowed this possibility in one striking scene in which Thrawn ordered Morgan Elsbeth to sacrifice herself to apprehend Ahsoka. “For the Empire,– he remarked. For Dathomir,– she corrected, indicating her true devotion. She had just received powers from the Great Mothers, and it was unlikely that Thrawn would have decided to sacrifice her as soon as this happened. He doesn’t seem to consider the Nightsisters reliable.and it is easy to imagine how they collide.

2

Ahsoka Season 2 Will Reveal Grand Admiral Thrawn’s True Enemy

What was Thrawn running from on Peridea?

There are interesting hints Ahsoka that Thrawn had found an enemy in Peridea with whom he fought desperately and from whom he fled. Thrawn’s forces are weary and exhausted, as if they have been fighting for years, and the Grand Admiral is mysteriously absent when the Eye of Zion arrives, even though he knew what awaited Elsbeth. It is implied that he was busy doing something else, fighting some other force.and Baylan Skoll believed that Thrawn escaped when he left Peridea.

Ahsoka ended with Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren stranded on Peridea, meaning they’ll likely meet whoever Thrawn fought. While it could potentially be an even greater threat than the Grand Admiral, it could also be a new ally. After all, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and it would be interesting to see what kind of force could keep Thrawn busy for years to come.

Grand Admiral Thrawn is distracting from the real threat… Abeloth

Will a classic Legends enemy make an appearance?

Another theory, however, is that Ahsoka Season 2 could introduce Abeloth – with Thrawn serving as a red herring while Abeloth is the real main villain. In Legends, Abeloth is a powerful being associated with the gods of Mortis who was trapped millennia ago and held by the gods of Mortis until their deaths during the Clone Wars. She was a dark force more powerful than anything Luke Skywalker had ever faced before, and he was forced to work with the Sith to defeat her.

AhsokaThe ending confirmed that Peridea was somehow connected to the Gods of Mortis, and Baylan Skoll believed he heard a siren call in the Force that could easily have been made by the canon version of Abeloth. Many speculate that Ahsoka and Anakin Skywalker are somehow replacing the Gods of Mortis, with Anakin serving as an agent of balance (the Father) and Ahsoka being deeply connected to the Daughter, the avatar of the light side. Will they be able to fight a true great battle even as Grand Admiral Thrawn attacks the main galaxy?
