For more than a decade, no one genre, for better or worse, has dominated anime quite similar to the isekai gender. Although it has always existed in some form, isekai It didn’t begin to be recognized as its own thing until the 2010s, and thanks in large part to the genre’s escapist elements, it has become a mainstay of the medium, with dozens of new anime produced every year.
As isekai began to grow in popularity, it also began to become controversial among fans and critics because of how so many stories appear as different takes on escapist power fantasies that revolve around uninteresting leads and their growing harems of girls. That being said, there are many isekai animes that avoid these clichés, and therefore, many great isekai anime has heroes that seem much cooler and more fun than average isekai anime protagonist. Some of these heroes stand out in particular, and each one is worth highlighting.

The inhabitants of this world are at war with the Ends, a monstrous organization led by other historical figures seeking to take control, and it is soon up to Toyohisa and his allies to stop them and protect their new world.
Like many characters written by Kouta Hirano from Hell fame, the biggest appeal for Toyohisa is his bloodthirsty and often deranged nature, but beyond that, Derivatives makes Toyohisa such a cool protagonist because he balances his insanity well with little bits of genuine heroism. With the anime on indefinite hiatus, there isn’t much to see from Toyohisa, but what there is is exactly as engaging as one would expect from a character written by the creator of Hell.
