Notice! Spoilers for all MCU content releasing in 2024
THE Marvel Cinematic Universe saw some dramatic death scenes throughout 2024, with some particularly shocking endings being faced by various characters. Compared to previous years, 2024 was quite light on Marvel releases, with just a single feature film, Deadpool and Wolverine, gracing cinemas under the red flag thanks to a variety of delays. Other than that, spin-off series like Agatha all the time, echo, and X-Men '97 they were Marvel's only source of deaths for the year.
Despite the few projects that the MCU launched in 2024, the year was still quite bloodywith an above-average mortality rate in all releases that debuted. While few long-running characters from previous phases have died in 2024, that's not to say that the deaths of newly introduced players haven't been significant in the grand scheme of the series. Whether they're genuinely tragic or hilarious, the deaths of certain MCU characters in 2024 have made big waves.

Agatha Harkness Dies in Agatha All the Time
The only MCU project to see its titular character perish
Agatha all the time is inherently a macabre series made with the supernatural in mind, so it's no surprise that the Disney+ show was surrounded by deaths. Easily the most significant and well-crafted death in Agatha all the time it was that of Agatha Harkness herself. This marks the first time a character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe dies in their own self-titled solo projectan important milestone to be reached by the series in 2024.
Sacrificing herself for Billy Maximoff, Agatha offers her own life to the literal personification of Death in the MCU, breaking another boundary with the first same-sex kiss scene between two women in the MCU. This literal kiss of death leaves Agatha lifelessinstantly decaying into a decrepit husk before melting into a beautiful bed of flowers. Although she dies, her journey in the MCU is far from over, as she assumes a spectral form more similar to her comic incarnation, vowing to help Billy find his missing brother.

Cassandra Nova dies in Deadpool and Wolverine
Charles Xavier's sister kicks the bucket in the film in which she is introduced
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a peculiar habit of killing off powerful villains who could easily function as threats from multiple films in the same entry in which they are introduced. Sadly, Deadpool and Wolverine continued this trend with Cassandra Nova, Professor X's evil twin sister, who rules the TVA Void with an iron fist.
When she is about to destroy Deadpool's reality with the Time Ripper, Deadpool and Wolverine's intervention backfires on Cassandrablowing it to pieces due to the effort. In fact, Cassandra Nova's death is almost the least significant aspect of the scene in which it takes place.
From Wolverine's emotional flashback to Madonna's epic choir version Like a prayerthe bond forged between two mutants that overcomes Cassandra's machinations literally overshadows her own death. Still, it would be inaccurate to say that one of the most significant threats introduced to the MCU in recent years, death is not a newsworthy event.

Chris Evans' Human Torch Dies in Deadpool and Wolverine
The old fox character is brutally killed
Of all the special appearances in Deadpool and Wolverine, Chris Evans' Human Torch was easily one of the most impressive. At first, Evans' appearance in the film seems to hint at a Captain America cameo, with Deadpool anxiously waiting for him to say Cap's catchphrase only for Johnny Storm to scream.Flame lit!“, activating his pyrokinetic powers.
The Human Torch's cameo is hilariously interrupted when his character is violently killed by Cassandra Nova. After Deadpool rats out Johnny Storm's foul language towards Cassandra (which a post-credits scene actually reveals to be shockingly true), Cassandra responds in turn by instantly ripping off all the skin from her body.
Johnny is unstable for a moment like a living illustration from an anatomy book before collapsing in a pile of blood, causing one of the most graphic deaths ever in the MCU. This hilariously over-the-top death was a memorable way for Cassandra to demonstrate just how evil and powerful she really is.

Gambit dies in X-Men '97
Audiences will certainly remember this well
While technically not part of the main MCU timeline, X-Men '97 launching as a product of the MCU caused one of the franchise's most shocking deaths this year. Among your Deadpool and Wolverine cameo courtesy of Channing Tatum and his appearance in X-Men '972024 was a big year for mutant card slinger Gambit.
The words behind Gambit's death and Rogue's heartbreaking reaction are perhaps the most harrowing moment in the 2024 MCU.
Remy LeBeau went out with a literal bang after an attack on the peaceful mutant island nation of Genosha, orchestrated by a colossal three-headed Sentinel robot. In a last-ditch effort to stop the raging machine, Gambit attacks, only to be skewered by Sentinel's automated defenses.
X-Men '97 is the direct continuation of the popular 1990s animated series X-Men: The Animated Series. Picking up where season three left off, Marvel's revival brings back famous mutants like Wolverine, Storm, Rogue, Gambit, Cyclops, Beast, Magneto and Nightcrawler, who battle villains like Mr.

Lilia sacrifices herself on Agatha all the time
An impressive demonstration of the power of divination magic
Gambit wasn't the only Marvel character to defeat his enemies with a spectacular self-sacrifice in 2024. Enter Lilia Calderu, the designated divination witch of Agatha's clan in Ágatha all the time. The trail from their relevant school of magic on the dangerous Witch's Road sees the mysterious masked clan, The Salem Seven, finally catching up to Agatha's group, threatening dire consequences if they can catch up to the gang.
Surrounded by shapeshifting witches, Lilia makes a daring sacrifice play by turning over the major arcana tarot card “The Tower”, which symbolizes disaster and calamity. To illustrate this, Lilia reverses the gravity of the room she is in, causing her and the Salem Seven to be impaled by the various swords lodged in the ceiling. Of all the deaths in Ágatha all the time, Lilia's is at once one of the most visually stunning and emotionally devastating.

Nicepool is used as a human shield in Deadpool and Wolverine
Tragic and funny at the same time
As previously demonstrated by The Human Torch, Deadpool and Wolverine It certainly wasn't afraid to play certain deaths as a comedic shock, hilarious for its tragedy in a roundabout way. The best example of this in action is Nicepool, one of the many versions of himself that Deadpool meets (and kills) in his multiversal adventures.
During a shootout with other Deadpool variants the Mouth Mercenary uses Nicepool as a human shieldassuming he would be able to regenerate. While Nicepool may have been blessed with an ugly dog, good hair, a scar-free face, and two gold-plated Desert Eagles, he apparently didn't have the one thing all the other Deadpools have – a healing factor.
So, after being riddled with holes by the other Deadpool's bullets, his face turns into a fine red mist in the middle of the motivational speech, completely deflating the original recipe for Deadpool's attempt at an inspirational pep talk. So sad that it comes back and gets funny againNicepool's death was one that shook up the MCU's 2024 run.

Echo's mother dies in a car accident in Echo
The tragic origins of Echo's criminal career
A forgotten MCU release that took place at the beginning of the year, Echo was a criminally forgotten MCU show that chronicled Maya Lopez's redemption as the titular hero. Taloa Lopez was a member of the Choctaw tribe to which young Maya belonged, possessing an extraordinary gift of healing that she hoped to one day pass on to her daughter.
Sadly, Taloa's life was cut short thanks to the Kingpin's machinationsas revealed in Echo's first appearance in Hawkeye. It's only in Echo's self-titled series that the details of Taloa's death are explored, with his car's brakes being cut by one of the Kingpin's henchmen.
In the same accident that cost Maya her legTaloa dies tragically, putting Maya's anger and frustration into clearer context. Taloa is at least able to return in spirit form at the end of Echo, helping his newly empowered daughter attempt to heal Wilson Fisk's broken mind.

Death leads Nicholas to scratch Agatha all the time
A big part of Agatha's motivations
Taloa Lopez isn't the only motivational death shown via flashback in a 2024 MCU series. Agatha all the time does a similar trick with Nicholas Scratch, Agatha's son, who is revealed to have died under mysterious circumstances a long time ago. Rumors in the wizarding community suggest that Agatha may have intentionally sacrificed her son for some benefit of magical power, although her apparent mourning over his death, even in the modern day, seems to contradict this.
The heartbreaking truth behind Nicholas Scratch's death is one of the most brutal revelations of any 2024 MCU project, and it explains a lot about Agatha's personality and goals.
The truth is finally revealed when Agatha all the time shows Agatha's bargain with Death to keep Nicholas alive long after he has succumbed to illness, desperately keeping him alive with unholy magic. Possibly, Death comes to collect and gently leads Nicholas by the hand to the grave while your mother continues to sleep. The heartbreaking truth behind Nicholas Scratch's death is one of the most brutal revelations of any 2024 MCU project, and it explains a lot about Agatha's personality and goals.

Sharon has been poisoning Agatha the whole time
One of the few returning MCU characters who will die in 2024
For the most part, Marvel Cinematic Universe deaths in 2024 have been revelations of deaths that were already known in the present day or of entirely new characters, with no legacy role meeting its end. The only exception is the death of Sharon Davis, who reprises her role as WandaVision in Ágatha all the time. A normal citizen of Westview, Sharon is recruited into Agatha's clan. under the weak premise of replacing the “Witch of Green Earth” thanks to her green thumb despite having no real supernatural powers.
This lack of magical knowledge proves to be her undoing in one of the Witches' Road trials, which sees Sharon drinking a glass of poisonous wine along with everyone else. As Jennifer Hale misses a key ingredient in crafting an antidote potion for the poison, Sharon dies just minutes from being cured. Her death is a cruel and unnecessary sacrifice in Agatha's selfish journey.

Madelyne Pryor is vaporized in X-Men '97
A tragic end for a tragic character
X-Men '97 proved to be the master of superhero soap opera drama when it is revealed that Mr. Sinister swapped Jean Gray for a clone at an unknown time, resulting in Cyclops having a baby with an unwitting copy of his beloved. Knowing that her life was little more than a supervillain's ruse, the new creature, who calls herself Madelyne Pryor, tries to enjoy a new life in Genosha. Of course, this ends in ruin with the Sentry's deadly attack, resulting in Pryor being vaporized by the initial blitzkrieg..
What makes Madelyne's death so particularly tragic is the fact that she was finally able to reunite with her son, Cable, just for a brief moment before. Cable can only say a tearful goodbye to his mother before traveling back in time, knowing the impending destruction that is about to kill her. Although it ended a confusing subplot, Madelyne Pryor's death is one of the most quietly devastating UCM moments of 2024.
