Murder in the First (2014–2016)

As Terry English

There are many crime procedural programs on television. For a show to stand out, it needs to have something that hooks viewers and makes it stand out from all the other crime procedurals out there. For Criminal Mindsit’s delving into the psychology of suspects. For NCISthis links the crimes to the military. In case Murder in the firstThe thing is that each season of the show only tells about one case, and not in a “case of the week” format.

The series lasted only three seasons, but each of these seasons was devoted to completely different investigations. The first is two separate murders that are actually connected, the second is an investigation into the death of a police officer that uncovers corruption, and the final season is the death of a football player. Although each season involves a murder, they all take different investigation paths.

Diggs plays Inspector Terry English in the series. Not only is he a capable investigator, but he is also a former Marine sniper. He also grieves the death of his wife throughout the series, adding another layer to how he approaches death throughout the series.

Lip Sync Battle (2017, 2018)

Like himself

Diggs’ background in musical theater makes him an energetic performer who knows how to keep an audience on his side.

Lip Sync Battle this is not the type of TV show where an actor should play a role. They just need to be able to convincingly lip sync and dance to popular music and do it better than any other celebrity on the show. Very few people appeared on the show more than once. However, Taye Diggs showed up and won the competition twice.

Diggs made his first appearance in Season 3 against Ne-Yo. It was memorable because he actually performed Ne-Yo’s own song, “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself).” His second appearance on the show was in season three, where he competed against Erika Jayne in an episode dedicated to Christina Aguilera. Diggs’ background in musical theater makes him an energetic performer who knows how to keep an audience on his side.

Lip Sync Battle may be best known for giving the world Tom Holland’s performance of Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” but Taye Diggs winning the show twice makes it a worthy competitor.

RENT (2005)

As Benjamin Coffin III

Taye Diggs as Benny pointing up while he sings on the street in RENT

RENT received many mixed reviews when it first hit theaters in 2005. The film adapted Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical of the same name and even retained most of the original cast in the roles they originated on stage, despite being filmed nearly a decade after the show’s Broadway debut.

Much of the criticism of the film centered on the script and what cuts were made to the plot to simplify it for the film’s release. The cuts angered Broadway fans, but also meant that the film left out some elements that helped parts of the story make more sense. What cannot be criticized is the chemistry and talent of the actors. Since many of them worked together on the original show, there was built-in chemistry.

Diggs played Benny, the landlord of most of the characters and Mimi’s ex, making him the film’s antagonist for most of the story. Despite the film’s criticism, it is a great showcase of Diggs’ talent, as he fails to sing in many of his on-screen roles.

Chicago this is an interesting movie for Diggs because e.g. RENThe actually played the same role on Broadway. During his run ChicagoDiggs played the bandleader, but also understudied the role of Billy Flynn. While Richard Gere played Flynn in the film, Diggs had to return to the role of the bandleader.

The musical follows what happens to two women accused of murder and the lawyer who defends them. However, the entire show is set up like a big lounge show to give the audience an “old hustle” to distract them from the actual murders that took place. This is one of the best musical adaptations of all time.

Chicago was a huge success. It was nominated for 13 Oscars, winning six, including Best Picture. Chicago was the first musical to do so since 1968.

Best Man (1999)

As Harper Stewart

The series is inspired by a true story, but since it’s produced for The CW, it also has its fair share of fictional drama. All American tells the story of a high school football player who pursues his dream of playing professionally, and those around him who help make that dream come true.

Diggs plays one of those people. He is a coach who recruits a football player to his Los Angeles high school, setting him on the path of his dreams. Diggs only appears in the first five seasons as a series regular and later appears as a guest star.

While the series did not receive consistently high ratings on The CW during its run, this is not unusual for the network. Instead, the CW’s most successful shows actually have lucrative streaming deals due to their popularity outside the United States. This is exactly the case when All Americanwhich became a hit on Netflix.

All American released a spin-off series called All American: Homecoming. It has also been renewed for a seventh season, but it won’t feature much of the same cast.

Diggs doesn’t play any of the show’s musical stars. Instead, he plays a city councilman. He was initially romantically involved with Taraji P. Top Man: Final Chapters (2022)

As Harper Stewart

The cast of Top Man: The Final Chapters poses in front of an open window and bookshelves in a promotional image for the show.

…this allows each of these now much more experienced actors to reconnect with their characters and delve deeper into their lives…

One of the best things about the rise of streaming platforms is the ability of streamers to give fans the nostalgia they crave. While film and TV fans can stream what they love repeatedly, many platforms have also returned to classic stories. Peacock brought back the characters Best man for a limited edition.

Best Man: Final Chapters follows the same group of friends as they begin new chapters in their lives. While the first film was more of a coming-of-age story, this one explores the obstacles of midlife. Couples are forced to reconsider their relationships, make changes to their careers and deal with the challenges of raising children.

This time, Diggs’ Harper gets the chance to turn his best-selling book into a movie. Just as the novel reveals secrets to a group of friends, the film sees them look back on their lives.

Some will argue that the movie is the better project, but the series ranks higher because it allows each of these now much more seasoned actors to reunite with their characters and delve deeper into their lives, including Diggs. His Taye Diggs‘the best series to date.
