After arriving in Victor’s hometown of Camden, Maine, by falling through the lighthouse portal, Tabitha discovers a series of parallels between herself and Victor’s mother, Miranda. The Matthews family repeating the fate of the Kavanaughs would be terrible news for Tabitha and Julie

Through some curious influence that Fromville has outside of his world, If the Kavanaughs really are past versions of the Matthews family members, then they will apparently repeat their fates. If they were brought here for the same purpose, then the city may be trying to interfere by replicating the fates of the Kavanaughs, which would imply that the city wants to kill Tabitha and Julie at some point. However, Tabitha’s ability to reach the lighthouse, which Miranda was unable to do, suggests that they can still fight the dark fate of their past, even if the town is trying to ensure otherwise.

This may explain why Julie was so deeply affected by the music box monster, as Eloise was previously killed by Ofof the night monsters in the city massacre. Meanwhile, Victor and Ethan, as lonely children, lived the stories they read or were told, although the latter became more realistic due to the harshness of Ofthe city is changing him. Still, the town may be trying to stop Tabitha from saving the children in order to give her the same fate as Miranda, who puts Tabitha in extreme danger in the future.
