Since its disastrous initial launch in 2016, No Man’s Sky continued to be one of the gaming industry’s best redemption stories, as updates from developer Hello Games continued to provide the game with new features and content. Even in 2024, 8 years after launch, No Man’s Sky is still receiving major updates, including graphical improvements, system overhauls, and even all-new content like fishing and new themed expeditions.
As advertised in a short trailer in Hello Games YouTube channel, a new No Man’s Sky to update also implements cross-saveallowing players to share progress across different platforms by connecting their accounts to No Man’s Sky website. The platforms included are PlayStation, Steam, Xbox, Nintendo, and GOG, although Nintendo is currently listed as “coming soon.” Notably, linking accounts will also allow Twitch Drops for No Man’s Skyallowing players to receive extra rewards for watching game broadcasts.
No Man’s Sky cross-save support spans multiple devices
New NMS update allows players to transfer game saves between different platforms
As shown in the trailer and detailed on the website, No Man’s Skythe cross-save feature will work by allowing players to upload their saves to cloud storagewhich can contain a maximum of five saves per player.
Once saves are loaded, players can download them to local storage on any platform where they have linked their account, allowing them to transfer progress from one platform to another. Currently, according to the site’s FAQ, The feature is in beta and will only be available to a limited number of players, with more spots to open up later.
Our opinion: No Man’s Sky is releasing updates left and right
NMS’s rapid updates show the developer’s devotion to improving the game
Notably, the implementation of cross-save is No Man’s Skysixth major update of 2024making it one of the game’s most active years, despite the game’s long lifespan and the development of Hello Games’ next project, Don’t light a fire. More recently, No Man’s Skyof The Cursed The update, added in October, added a new expedition to the game, which focused on horror aspects and forced players to adapt to a different method of interstellar travel.
Although Don’t light a fire is the next big project from Hello Games, No Man’s Sky continues to receive updates, eight years after its launch. Without a real roadmap for the game, it’s hard to know what’s coming next, but players can probably expect a mix of themed and limited-time expeditions in between updates that add new content to the game, like the Aquarium update in September 2024 that added fishing. As No Man’s Sky becomes more feature-complete, it’s hard to say what else the game really needs, but Hello Games has shown a strong devotion to continually improving the game over time.
