Ark: Ascended Survivalof Extinction The update brings a new map, a new creature and new features to the revamped dinosaur survival game. Ascended Extinction is the fourth major free DLC to be released for WINGaccompanying Burnt Earth, The Centerand Aberration. Each of these DLCs is centered around a map that debuted in Ark: Survival Evolvedusually as a player-made mod; in truth, Extinction is the first to be an original creation by Studio Wildcard.
Extinction will be the definitive WING DLC launching in 2024, but will likely see more in 2025 as Studio Wildcard continues to bring back the old Evolved Survival content back to the remake. For now, here's everything to expect from Extinction to update, including the new Wasteland War mode.
All in the new extinction map
A Return to Earth
Perhaps the biggest and most exciting change contained in the Extinction update is its namesake, the new map. Unlike all other officers WING maps, Extinction It doesn't take place in space, but rather among the ruins of Earth.. Each of its corners represents a different biome: the Sunken Forest in the northwest, the Snow in the northeast, the Desert in the southeast, and the Sulfur Fields in the southwest. Called Proto-Arks, these biomes are of human origin, created as experiments to test the viability of Ark space stations.
Naturally, each of these locations harbors unique dangers: extreme temperatures in the Snow and Desert zones, in the deep caves of the Sunken Forest, and in the corrosive water of the Sulfur Fields. There are several other smaller biomes scattered between the four corners: the Sludge Basin in the far south, the Forbidden Zone in the far north, and large areas of Wasteland in between. Little life flourishes in the Wasteland, so players planning to make long journeys there need to be prepared.
In the center of Extinction and Sanctuary, a once excellent and technologically advanced city which is now in ruins. With its lush plant life and dilapidated but habitable structures, Sanctuary is relatively hospitable to life – but that also means it will be heavily contested in multiplayer games.
Extinction It also has some unique map features and weather events to keep things interesting. First are eclipses, which can cause darkness even during the day. Next come meteor showers, which are completely dangerous, as the falling debris can destroy structures and damage humans and creatures. Orbital Supply Drops will occasionally fall from the sky and Element Nodes will emerge from the ground; players will have to defend them from waves of corrupted creatures (and rival players) before they can claim what's inside.
Extinction's new Dreadnoughtus creature
What to expect from Dreadnoughtus
Extinction also comes with an entirely new creature: Dreadnoughtus, an imposing, long-necked herbivore. In the wild, Dreadnoughtus does not pose a specific threat to humans; he will ignore most smaller creatures unless they attack him first. However, when attacked, the Dreadnoughtus can withstand a powerful attack, channeling the damage it takes into a powerful roar that unsettles Element.
Once tamed, Dreadnoughtus is a useful ally. It primarily serves as a pack mule, with a large carrying capacity for whatever resources the player can muster. It's also rideable, so players can use the Dreadnoughtus as a walking tank. Its signature attack allows it to swallow rocks and cannonballs and then regurgitate them, throwing them back at enemies with a layer of acid.
In addition to Dreadnoughtus, players can find and tame a variety of Extinction-exclusive creatures on the new map. These are mostly synthetic remnants of the technologically advanced society that once occupied the sanctuary: surveillance drones, security droids, and mechs.
All in the new Wasteland war mode
Customizable Vehicles and the End of Bob's Great Tales
Releasing next door Extinction and Wasteland War, a new game mode that also serves as the conclusion of Bob's Great Tales DLC series. Wasteland War is inspired by Mad Max film series: taking place on the Extinction map, it takes place amid the wastelands of a desolate Earth, where various factions fight with the help of highly modified vehicles. Players can drive and customize their own vehicles called BattleRigs as part of Wasteland War, tricking them with weapons, armor, and paint and then using them to destroy enemy strongholds.
Wasteland War comes with some new structures and weapon typesencouraging an element of base building and defense. These include spears and explosive grenades that can put out fires, along with Bladewasp hives and Bio-Grinders. There are new skins and tilesets to go along with it all, and a handful of new character cosmetics. Finally, Wasteland War also unlocks Armadoggoa new, permanent canine companion that follows players around on their Ark adventures, unearthing treasures and retrieving items for them. Just like BattleRigs, Armadoggo is mechanized and fully customizable: players can install new bits and pieces of armor to expand their abilities and defenses.
And that's all you can expect from the new update and DLC. For the rest, players will have to dive Ark: Ascended Survival and explore the new map for yourself.
