Superman’s new civilian identity justifies every criticism fans have of Clark Kent

WARNING: CONTAINS POTENTIAL SPOILERS FOR BATMAN: GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT – THE KRYPTONIAN AGE #5!A long-standing fan criticism is the sheer absurdity that no one, not even close acquaintances, can recognize Clark Kent as SupermanDespite his white appearance of glasses, a different hairstyle, and a gentle attitude. And with the last civilian identity of the Man of Steel, this criticism becomes even more equal, which makes it almost laughable that Clark is still trying to keep a secret identity at all.

Superman officially makes his debut in Andy Diggle, Leandro Fernández and Matt Hollingsworth’s Batman: Gotham by Gaslight – The Kryptonian Age #5. This Other worlds series, a sequel to the 1989 classic Batman: Gotham by Gaslight By Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola, reimagining fan-favorite DC characters in the 19th century.

The Kryptonian Age #5 Sheriff Superman 1

in the world, Clark Kent remains the Kryptonian hero fans know and love, but instead of a mild-mannered investigative journalist, he’s a bumbling yet beloved sheriff. The new civilian identity also further shows how unbelievable it is that anyone could be fooled by Clark’s minimal disguise.

Superman falls flat on his face to dodge a bullet

in Batman: Gotham by Gaslight – The Kryptonian Age #5, Clark makes his debut by stepping into a standoff with Deadshot, and the whole scene is laughably absurd. Clark practically reveals that he is Superman several times. First, he comes with super speed, shaking the ground so much that the townspeople consider it a stampede. Not surprisingly, the moment Sheriff Clark shows up, the mysterious “stamp” stops. The situation only becomes more ridiculous when Deadshot fires at Clark, and to avoid giving away his invulnerability, Clark awkwardly trips and falls face-first. To dodge the bullet. He even adds to the ridiculousness by saying, – So cute… tripped over my own shoes!

But Clark’s charade does not stop there. When another shot is fired, the bullet ‘miraculously’ ricochets off his sheriff’s badge, disarming one of the bandits. As if that wasn’t enough, Clark subtly uses his heat vision to overheat the other criminals’ guns, causing them to misfire before quipping, “My God, would you look at that. A double mistake!” Clark’s exaggerated, bumbling persona, meant to hide his identity as Superman, only highlights how utterly unbelievable it is that no one sees through his flimsy disguise, especially when he’s pulling stunts this wild.
