In a preview for Superman #21 by Joshua Williamson, Dan Mora, Alejandro Sánchez, and Ariana Maher, Superman invites Superwoman on what she assumes is some kind of secret mission. When Lois follows Superman through space, she is surprised to discover that they will be spending time together on the moon.
Superman reveals to Lois that they are going on a date, not a mission, and it won't be like any other date they've had before. Thanks to Lois' new superpowers, she and Clark can mix up their date night in creative ways that other couples in DC history can only dream of.
The classic Superman and Lois Lane romance gets a super-powered update
Superwoman's Kryptonian powers allow this iconic couple to up the ante on their dates
On Superman's date with Lois, he sets up a pretty standard date activity for the two of them, but with a superhuman twist. He uses his heat vision to form a target on the surface of a huge moon rock. Then he lifts another stone and throws it at the target like a huge javelin. Superman quotes Lois mentioning her proficiency with darts from her college days, which gives the scene a sweet tone as it shows that he planned the meeting based on her interests. Instead of throwing normal darts, Superman and Superwoman can play with giant space rocks due to Lois' Kryptonian strength.
Typically, when Superman takes Lois out, he is the only party involved who has superpowers at his disposal. As such, while they are able to do more than most couples thanks to Superman's Kryptonian heritage, they tend to be more limited due to Lois' lack of powers. However, Lois becoming Superwoman creates a role reversal where she can accomplish the same feats as him. Superman and Lois' encounters are no longer limited to human activities, as this change in their status quo opens up endless possibilities for what they can do together.including his current moonwalk.
Superman and Superwoman are officially DC's best superhero couple
Lois Lane is no longer a civilian love interest, elevating her romance with Superman
Superwoman's powers don't just improve her encounters with Superman; they also make her and Superman a better couple than most others in the DC Universe. During the dart game, Superwoman comments, “Do you think anyone else has such exciting date nights?” Many superheroes have civilian love interests, like the Flash and his wife Linda, so they can never be on equal footing. Superman and Lois have historically fallen into this category, but now, Superwoman reached the supernatural level of her husband. So the classic superhero romance between Superman and Lois Lane can fly higher than their peers.
Superman #21 is available December 26, 2024 from DC Comics.
