Superman and Lois Season 4 created a major power divide between Clark Kent’s children, creating a dynamic that the DC series will need to address in one way or another as it approaches its finale. With the final season also being the final season of the show, the Superman and Lois Season 4’s cast of characters are getting their respective endings in this final leg of the story, leading to some unexpected twists. One of those twists came with the reveal of Jonathan Kent getting his powers Superman and Lois Season 4, Episode 3.
This has already had a major impact on the plot of the live-action Superman show and seems to have additional significance in the narrative given how quickly and intensely Jonathan began doing superhero work. However, this all raises questions about how the series will handle the comparisons between Jonathan and Jordan that this side plot raises, especially since it risks undermining much of what has come before in regards to Jordan’s superhero story.
Superman & Lois Season 4 built a major divide between the powers of Clark’s children
Jonathan’s story after gaining his powers seems very different from Jordan’s first power lessons
Superman and Lois Season 4 showing the awakening of Jonathan Kent’s powers was a long-awaited moment for the series – and a moment that prior to this was apparently not set in terms of happening, as so much time had passed without the character’s abilities coming to fruition, and Season 2’s X-Kryptonite storyline suggested he may never be able to use any without taking the drug. Not only were these fears proven wrong, but Jonathan also came into his powers much more quickly and easily than Jordan ever did.
However, The ease with which Jonathan was able to adapt to his powers presents some problems for the story when compared to Jordan’s own plot. in relation to their powers, since there is such a marked difference in these narratives. Although entire seasons have been dedicated to Jordan adapting to his powers and learning how to use them – often painfully, in cases like the emergence of his super senses – in the same episode that Jonathan gets his powers, he is apparently able to use them. them without obstacles.
While part of this is no doubt that Jonathan having to mirror Jordan’s power development would have been too slow for the series’ final season – and that Jordan’s jealousy over Jonathan learning to use his abilities has some useful applications in story – this serves to undermine the struggle that Jordan went through for years in real time to use his powers effectively and responsibly. As such, I hope Superman and Lois will take care to also show how Jordan also has the advantage over Jonathan in terms of his abilities – and luckily, the series has a perfect way to do that.
Superman and Lois have an easy way to balance their division of power from Superboy
The show’s previous seasons created an edge for Jordan that Jonathan fails to mirror
Jonathan has taken on his powers far more effectively than Jordan probably could have dreamed of when his first one emerged in season one, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Jonathan is any better when it comes to using his brothers’ superhuman powers. Jordan not only has a lot more training than his brother, but he also has more practice using his powers in real fights. – including against other superhumans, like his Kryptonian uncle, Tal-Rho – which will likely pay off as the show moves into its final episodes and any final battles within them.
Although Jonathan’s superhero adventures may have involved some off-screen fights, he lost the fight to Lex Luthor’s lackey Hacksaw Kronick in Superman and Lois season 4, episode 4, and other than that, it appears his main battle training was in the Fortress of Solitude against hologram versions of Clark’s enemies. While Jonathan could definitely still be of some help against any future opponents of the show’s protagonists, this setup opens up the opportunity for things to be balanced, making Jordan more useful in this specific type of scenario.
Superman and Lois’ Dream Ending Makes Balancing Jonathan and Jordan’s Stories Even More Important
The prospect of Jordan and Jonathan stepping into Superman’s shoes makes the story of their powers even more integral.
Although there is a real chance that all of Superman’s powers could return before the end of the series – especially based on theories that Clark could use Doomsday’s heart to replace Sam Lane’s transplanted human heart, which it seems be causing problems for Superman – The show’s current setup and its consistent focus on family suggest the story could very well end with Jonathan and Jordan taking their father’s place on the superhero side.. If that’s the case, ensuring that Jordan’s powers and history aren’t completely overshadowed is even more important.
Having Jordan and Jonathan take on Superman’s legacy in Superman and Lois the ending would put even more focus on the duo’s rise to superhero dominance and means that, ideally, both should be shown as equal successors. While they don’t need to have identical skill sets, suggesting that Jonathan is the better hero of the two would seem like a waste of Jordan’s arc, and a move that doesn’t take into account the overall spirit of the show, which hopefully means the series continues. to highlight the unique strengths of all of its main characters as it comes to an end.
