Sukuna’s fate at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen proves why the series needs a prequel

Warning: Contains spoilers for chapter #271 of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Jujutsu Kaisens manga has finally ended, and its final chapter proves that the series needs a prequel. Regarding Akutami’s popular battle manga, Jujutsu Kaisen, finally ended her six-year-long story with chapter #271. Although fans’ hopes for a sequel or continuation have been squashed, a prequel could still be in the cards, if not necessary, considering how much the finale teases about the main villain’s past, SukunaWhile stressing just how little fans know about him.

Chapter #271 completed Jujutsu Kaisens story on a happy note as Yuji, Megumi and Nobara safely complete their final mission. The episode also touches on Gojo’s last words to Yuji and Sukuna’s fate again, giving fans more closure in both ways. Although the series has carefully laid out Sukuna’s unique philosophy and his actions and choices are understandable, the Series rarely touches on Sukona’s past And that made him the compelling antagonist that fans know him as. As such, though Jujutsu Kaisen Can’t get a sequel, it’s still ripe for a prequel that would help expand Sukuna’s character.

Jujutsu Kaisen needs a Heian Era prequel to explain Sukuna’s past

A prequel centered around Sukuna would be a meaningful expansion on his character

Despite being the final antagonist of the series, No other character in Jujutsu Kaisen was shrouded in mystery Like Ryomen Sukuna. Little is known about Sukuna when he was still human except for the fact that he was a creepy or unwanted child and that he ate his twin in the womb, as the final arc revealed.

Flashbacks of Sukuna during the Heian era are sparse And have only added to the mystery surrounding his character instead of explaining them, and Jujutsu Kaisen‘s final chapter leaves fans hanging with these questions. As such, a prequel would help expand Sukuna’s character in very meaningful ways, finally giving fans a glimpse into what made the monster that terrorized jujutsu society for millennia.

Apart from Sukuna’s childhood, there are also many unanswered Questions about how Sukuna was able to split his soul into twenty fragmentsWhat drove him to do it, how he was defeated in the Heian era, and who it was that defeated him if he really stood at the very top in the golden era of jujutsu. Chapter #271 also leaves fans wanting to see more of Sukuna’s relationship with Uraume who was so loyal that they gave their lives without a second doubt when Sukuna was defeated.

Jujutsu Kaisen teased the Heian era too many times to ignore

Some fans of Jujutsu Kaisen Previously argued against a prequel set in the Heian Era, as it would simply be a mirror of the final Shinjuku Showdown Arc only with new characters that fans didn’t get the time to meet properly. however, Jujutsu Kaisens cooling game arc has Already introduced fans to quite a few reincarnated magicians of the eraSuch as Uro, Kashimo, Angel and Yorozu.

The most interesting of these is Uro, whose violent history with Sukuna has been hinted at in bits and pieces across Jujutsu Kaisen. Chapter #238 in particular teases that Sukuna not only destroyed the Sun Moon and Stars Squad led by Uro but also battled angels who were part of the Abe Clan’s elite forces. There were also interesting mentions of a Fujiwara clan (for whom Uro worked as an assassin) and a Sugawara clan most likely connected to Gojo and Yuta’s mysterious ancestor, Michizane Sugawara.

Despite all the references to the Heian era and intriguing characters who lived during that time, Jujutsu Kaisen Never really get the chance to properly delve into that era. As such, a prequel will finally help explain all the mysteries while rounding out Sukuna’s character, who is already one of the most compelling characters of the series as a whole, despite how little fans know about him. Of course, not every antagonist needs an extensive past to help fans understand them, and while that certainly is the case in Sukuna’s case, A prequel would greatly help enrich it Jujutsu Kaisens franchise as a whole.
