Marvel has revealed an electrifying new design for StormAs the character enters her greatest era yet. With her new role as a prominent member of the Avengers and her current solo series, the concentrated effort to elevate Storm to the position of one of the main heroes of the publisher continues, and her eye-catching new costume is only the latest Step on the journey.
Marvel has unveiled the first look At Storm #2 – written by Murewa Ayodele, with art by Lucas Werneck – includes a fantastic cover by Mateus Manhanini, who debuts a regal new costume for Ororo Monroe.
The Last Avenger has had countless costumes during her tenure with the X-Men, but the most iconic has always been her silver suit. It’s a suit she continues to be synonymous with, however By putting a modern spin on the same outfit, Marvel officially launched Storm into a new era for himself, not just the Avengers or X-Men.

Storm has been on a whirlwind journey over the past few years; The final stretch of the X– The franchise’s Krakoan Era featured her becoming a mutant leader even greater than her mentors Professor X and Magneto, and the character’s new prominence outside of her role in X-Men Just continued its evolution. For this reason, Marvel’s new Storm Ongoing series is perhaps one of the most exciting books in the publisher’s list right now, especially with the fantastic art that has come out of it so far.

As series artist Lucas Werneck put it:
Fashion is always one of the many tools I reach for when looking for inspiration. You can tell so much about a character through their clothes, and that kind of visual storytelling is something I love. Now you can imagine how excited I was when Marvel gave me the opportunity and space to work with the fashion of such an iconic character as Ororo.
I’m really trying to give you a sense of style. I imagine she has this kind of goddess aura, but she also has so much humanity in her, so the challenge here is to translate all the aspects that define her into the way she dresses, moves, talks – the way she lives. I’m having so much fun, and I hope the fans enjoy all the tiny details we’re building for you along with all the surprises we’ve cooked up in the series.
Werneck understands how important costuming is to a hero. To loosely adapt an old phrase, it’s not the costume that makes the man but the man that makes the costume – but in this context, Storm’s new costume is a necessary means of symbolically reflecting a new era for the character. Werneck wants to create a piece of iconography to make Storm feel like the goddess she needs to be depicted as, and the above is the finished product.

The Marvel Universe as a whole is facing a new paradigm in a post-Krakoa world, with Storm being pulled in multiple directions as a result. There’s a lot that the new era means for Storm as far as her connections to Marvel’s superteams are concerned, but more than anything, This is an era in which Storm is raised as a hero higher than she ever was before. As a result, she needs to look the part, but Werneck and co. are working hard to re-build Storm As not just a star, but a superstar her character is deserving of.
