Your second main mission in Starfield: Shattered Space will take you to Dazra on the Varuun’kai moon called “Promised, broken.” Even if by luck, your arrival will signal a change for the people of Varuun, who have been waiting for the chosen one to follow the Path of the Snake. The mission will involve a winding path and careful decisions about which images to place on the altars of the Path.
Star field provides many opportunities for decision making, and this Destroyed space extension is no different. Plot choices, such as whether to kill or spare Sahima and other characters, can affect the course of your playthrough in both big and small ways. Likewise, the images you choose on the Path of the Serpent will determine who you are to the members of Varuun’s council, and Starfields the chosen one needs a title corresponding to his role.
How to start a promised, broken quest
The city of Dazra is waiting
You can roll right in “Promised, Broken” mission immediately after”What’s left” V Destroyed Starfield Space DLC. After placing the Oracle into orbit around Varuun’kai, your next stop will be the city of Dazra. Once the jump is complete, exit outside the Operations Department and follow your waypoint to the Oracle’s docking bay to land your ship in the city and begin the next quest.
When you land, a cutscene will begin during which you will meet a Varuun guard named Voris Neroon. Here he will question your intentions and demand details of your arrival. It’s usually best to tell the truth, but you can choose several dialogue options, including the following, outlined IGN:
Answer #1 |
“I have found your wayward star station, Oracle.” |
---|---|
Answer #2 |
“It was an accident. I was simply responding to a distress call.” |
Answer #3 |
“Where am I?” |
Advisor Malibor Dulkef will soon join the conversation, turning the tide of the conversation in your favor, suggesting that your arrival may be a gift from the Great Serpent. This sets the stage for what will happen in the upcoming mission. Again, you’ll have various dialogue options to contribute when the conversation comes to an end:
Answer #1 |
“Your station brought me here. She jumped while my ship was docked.” |
---|---|
Answer #2 |
“It was an accident. I didn’t want to be here.” |
Answer #3 |
“I don’t react very well to having a gun pointed at me.” |
Answer #4 |
“Let’s just forget about everything that happened and I’ll go.” |
Malibor’s hunch seems to be confirmed when a nearby Phantom named Anasko Varuun appears. Anasko was once the leader of the Waruun people and was distinguished from other Vortex Phantoms by remaining friendly before disappearing. In conversation, Malibor notes that many Varuun are stuck in this state, and it seems only you hear them. However, you need to provide a little proof that you are in fact the chosen one, sent to help Dazra and his people. To do this, you will have the following translation options:
Answer #1 |
“Everyone must serve.” |
---|---|
Answer #2 |
“Something about a citadel and transformation.” |
Answer #3 |
“He is trying to contact the Great Serpent, but something is wrong. He looks confused.” |
Answer #4 |
“I wasn’t really paying attention.” |
When Malibor is convinced, all that remains is agree to become a member of House Varuun. Follow the advisor who will lead you through the city to the ritual site. Your next stop is the Snake Path.
Malibor will inform you that the townspeople do not treat outsiders very well, so it is best not to interact with the townspeople until it is confirmed that you are Promised.

Which promised title is better?
Player preferences come first
You will be given the unique title of “The Promised” depending on which images you choose to place on the altars during the ritual in Starfield: Shattered Space “Promised, Broken” mission. After completing the quest, you will be referred to by the title Inaza gave you, but this will not affect your progress through the DLC. At the same time, the best name is the one you like best. Although “Harbinger” and “Reverent” certainly sound good.
