Star Wars has prepared Palpatine’s home world of Naboo to be essential in this next phase of Star Wars movies and TV shows. To come Star Wars shows and various Star Wars The upcoming films are set during the Mandalorian era, which occurs simultaneously with the New Republic timeline. Among them are Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Ahoska 2nd season and The Mandalorian and Grogualthough Dave Filoni’s currently untitled Mandalorian film is also undoubtedly set around the same time.
This period of Star Wars The timeline, therefore, appears to be the focus of the franchise at the moment, at least for the foreseeable future. While this means new characters, stories and planets, it will also see the return of several elements from other eras, including Palpatine and Padmé’s home planet. In truth, Naboo is perfectly positioned to become a major player in the galaxy once again during the New Republic Era..
Naboo was extremely important in the Prequel trilogy
Naboo was instrumental in Star Wars prequel trilogy for several reasons. This started with Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menacewhere tensions between Naboo and the Trade Federation began the events of the entire trilogy. It was because of the Trade Federation blockade that the Jedi became involved on Naboo, which led to them not only working alongside Padmé, but also, by chance, landing on Tatooine, where Qui-Gon Jinn discovered young Anakin. Skywalker.
Naboo was arguably equally important in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clonesas it was where Padmé and Anakin traveled together to protect Padmé after several attempts on her life. During this time together, Padmé and Anakin developed strong feelings for each other (although Anakin already had them, in fact), and they later returned to Naboo and were married there. Even in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the SithPadmé’s funeral was held on Naboo, once again highlighting its significance.
Naboo remained important off-screen
While Naboo’s reduced screen time might make it seem like the planet’s importance died with Padmé, that wasn’t the case. Naboo remained quite important well after Revenge of the Sith. Star Wars revealed in books and comics that Leia Organa herself sought help from Naboo to reestablish the Republic after the fall of the Empire because the planet had been so crucial in the Old Republic.
Leia Organa herself sought help from Naboo to reestablish the Republic after the fall of the Empire.
Node Star Wars comic Shattered Empire 2Leia visited Naboo and spoke directly with the queen at the time, Sosha Soruna. Leia explained:
“…Naboo represents the better of the Old Republic. Your assistance –your assistance, Your Highness – it would be invaluable leading the way to the restoration of Senate. When we try to form a new government, we hope to be able to count on Naboo’s support, advice and assistance.“
This story is not only moving because it connects Leia to Padmé in a profound way, but it also reveals that Naboo was still extremely important, and Leia (and Mon Mothma, who sent Leia on this mission) knew it.
The story of Naboo’s New Republic era is worth telling
It would be exciting to see Leia (who would need to be recast) visit Naboo, be it an on-screen version of the story in Shattered Empire 2 or an entirely new story, but the story of New Republic-era Naboo would be fascinating even if Leia wasn’t involved. In the same comic, Queen Soruna tells Leia that Naboo carries great shame for being the planet Palpatine came from. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that Palpatine came from such a beautiful and mostly peaceful planet, but Palpatine started out as a senator for Naboo.
Seeing the consequences of the Empire proved interesting for countless planets and groups, including the Mandalorians and, of course, the Jedi. This story would provide something new for Star Warshowever, in this Naboo would have to face the truth that someone from their planet had come to dominate the galaxy and terrorize many planets – including Naboo, although the planet did not suffer the same fate as many others. Instead of a violent occupation, Naboo saw its royalty reduced to little more than figureheads.
Naboo would have to face the truth that someone from their planet had dominated the galaxy and terrorized many planets.
The connection to Naboo would also be interesting because the planet is an important part of Padmé’s legacy. There is clearly a lot more story to tell here, especially during this era. Even so, it seems Naboo may be returning to the Star Wars screen even earlierbased on some updates about upcoming Andor season 2.
Could Naboo return even sooner?
Reports surprisingly indicated that Andor Season 2 filmed at a location that was previously used for Naboowhich could mean the planet is returning next season. This would be especially interesting because it could mean revealing what the Dark Times were like for Naboo. Although Star Wars Comics and books have explored this to some extent, as mentioned, seeing that on screen would be compelling, and the fate of Naboo could be explored in much more detail.
It would also be interesting to see if other planets felt the same way about Naboo. It makes sense that the people of Naboo carry guilt about their planet being Emperor Palpatine’s home world, but has this translated into other planets and people seeing Naboo through that lens or blaming them for Palpatine’s creation? It is possible, although this would be largely unfair; Palpatine was evil, but nothing on Naboo seems to have encouraged that in him. It’s also clear, given Leia and Mon Mothma’s desire to recruit Naboo, that not everyone blamed them, if anyone did.
Of course, the filming location does not confirm that Naboo will appear in Andor season 2. Star Wars used some incredible locations for Naboo in the prequel trilogy, the most famous being Lake Como in Italy, and it could be that there is some other lush planet that has a similar environment. It seems too coincidental, but it’s possible the connection doesn’t mean Naboo’s return.
If Naboo appears in Andor Season 2 or not, Star Wars they should make use of the planet, incorporating it into upcoming films and TV shows set during the New Republic era. Clearly, there are already canons Star Wars stories set during this time that confirm that Naboo was an important player during this time. This would also be a great return for the Star Wars prequel trilogy and for Padmé Amidala. It remains to be seen whether this will happen, but Star Wars could very well be setting up the return of Naboo during the Mandalorian era.
