This post contains a preview of Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Republic Under Siege #1
Star Wars revealed a surprising link between Lucas Skywalker and the legacy of Asajj Ventress. Although Ventress is best known for being Count Dooku’s Sith assassin during the Clone Wars, she did not always belong to the dark side and also escaped its rule after the Clone Wars. Now, Luke Skywalker has discovered a connection to Ventress’ early story after the Battle of Endor.
As seen in the new preview of Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Republic Under Siege #1 by Alex Segura, Stefano Raffaele, Jethro Morales, Jim Campbell and Alex Sinclair, Luke Skywalker is in search of relics and texts belonging to the Jedi Order. Not unlike the Jedi star compass Luke recovered in the previous arc Rise of Insurgency, the Jedi Knight located a compendium belonging to Jedi Master Ky Narec:
Confirming that Ky Narec’s death led his apprentice to embrace the path of the dark side, Star Wars fans know that this student was none other than Asajj Ventress before becoming Count Dooku’s apprentice. During the Clone Wars, Ventress was an impressive warrior who Luke’s father, Anakin Skywalker, fought on more than one occasion during the galactic conflict in the years before Luke was born.
Who was Jedi Master Ky Narec?
Asajj Ventress Master
A Jedi Master trapped on the world of Rattatak, Ky Narec eventually discovers a young Force-sensitive Dathomiri girl who he took in and raised to be his Jedi apprentice. However, Narec’s murder at the hands of some invaders sent Ventress down a path of vengeful darkness.. As such, this path eventually leads to his future recruitment by Count Dooku.
While Ventress served Dooku faithfully for years, her growing power in the Force during the Clone Wars resulted in Darth Sidious forcing Dooku to betray her and sideline her.. This motivated Ventress to initially seek revenge with the help of her fellow Nightsisters of Dathomir. Otherwise, Ventress becomes a bounty hunter and eventually falls in love with Jedi Master Quinlan Vos. Surviving the Dark Times, Ventress has an encounter with the rogue Clone Force 99, although the rest of her story remains a mystery in the Star Wars canon. However, Ventress’ entire story begins with Ky Narec.
Will Luke Skywalker learn more about Ventress’ history?
We still don’t know his final destination
It would be really exciting if Luke Skywalker eventually learned more about Ventress and her history in Star Wars timeline, or even reveal what he’s already learned about the former Sith assassin. There are certainly more Asajj Ventress stories than Star Wars could and should count. After all, Ventress’s ultimate fate remains unknown, beyond the fact that she survived until the Dark Times of the Empire’s rule. Regardless, the new connection between Luke Skywalker and Ventress is a really fun Easter egg.
Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Republic Under Siege #1 will go on sale November 20th from Marvel Comics.
