Star Wars missed a major story opportunity by showing Luke Skywalker’s Ossus Jedi Temple too soon

In recent years, Star Wars has done a great job of re-introducing legendary characters in their new TV shows. Most of the time, they have been done right in a way that works perfectly with the story, leaving no holes to fill – but if holes have to be filled in later, they are. A good example of this is Bo-Katan’s re-introduction in The Mandalorian Season 2; It’s seamless, and any holes that weren’t filled were filled in season 3. Sometimes, though, these types of interactions created a gap that left a missed opportunity about the story.

Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano’s first appearance together in The Book of Boba Fett Episode 6 “Chapter 6: From the Desert Comes a Stranger” mesmerized the viewers. The meeting of Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan and his son was surreal Star Wars Study. Unfortunately, looking back, the interaction produced questions about how they met with no clear answers. This moment also creates a hole in Luke’s story and the creation of his Jedi Temple on Ossus. Although not a “lot” by any means, an opportunity is missed here.

Ahsoka & Luke’s first meeting may have linked to Ossus

Instead, it was tied more to Grogu

While it’s still a good plot to have Ahsoka and Luke’s first interaction around Grogu, having their interaction tie to Ossus more directly could have left a lot of doors open for them. Ahsoka endorses the idea of Luke’s school through her conversation with Dean Jirin, but that’s all. She is more focused on Grogu and his training rather than helping Luke with his new school. Luke’s interaction with Ahsoka is interesting, as it’s clear that this is the first time they’ve met.

As quickly as Ahsoka enters, she leaves. When Luke asks if he will never see her again, she replies, “Maybe“, and leaves. The scene is left intentionally ambiguous, and it’s frustrating because the audience doesn’t exactly know how their paths crossed. If the first meeting of Luke and Ahsoka was more about Ossus and the school than just Grogu, the story for the future of these two characters could be streamlined. Instead, viewers have a fleeting moment that, while amazing, still leaves a story opportunity missed Star Wars.

Ossus is too important to have fully debuted in the Boba Fett Show

It’s also a great place to debut on a show as disappointing as this one

Luke's Jedi Academy is destroyed in Star Wars The Last Jedi

For Ossus, the ancient homeworld of the Jedi and the location of Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy, to make its full debut in a Boba Fett spin-off series is a major letdown. This episode may be universally considered the best in the series, but it still doesn’t give the planet the proper respect it deserves. Even though the planet first appeared in canon as a flashback during Star Wars: the last jedi, It is truly unfortunate to have it be explored more in-depth in this particular series.

Even more unfortunate is the missed opportunity to heighten the importance of Ossus by intertwining it with Luke and Ahsoka’s first meeting long before The Book of Boba Fett. Although Luke and Ahsoka’s stories still have a chance to develop more in the future, the missed opportunity about Ossus has limited the scope of their possible future stories together. Rather than Luke simply training Grogu and Ahsoka to ensure Dean didn’t reunite with his child, Ahsoka could have played a larger role in helping Luke lay the foundation for his future academy—and Star Wars Can’t easily get that chance back.
