Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Star Wars', the newest TV show, has just dropped a major hint about Jude Law's character Jod Na Nawood – and confirms what many suspected all along. The identity of Jude Law's character has been a mystery since the beginning. As with many Star Wars movies and TV shows, details about Skeleton Crew were kept secret before the show's release date.
Closer to the premiere of Skeleton Crew first two episodes, Star Wars began to reveal a little more, especially about Skeleton Crew cast and characters, suggesting that Jude Law's character was a Jedi. In truth, Skeleton Crew co-creator Christopher Ford went so far as to say he wanted a “a whole new kind of Jedi” for the show, strongly suggesting that Jod was a Jedi. There was always something a little strange about the idea that Jod was a Jedi, and a subtle detail of Skeleton Crew episode 4 confirms that the audience was right to doubt him.
There have been many hints that Jod Na Nawood is not a Jedi
Something about this was suspicious from the start
Even with Star Wars referring to Jod Na Nawood as a new type of Jedi and with Wim calling him a Jedi in the trailer (and later in episode 2), That description of Jod never felt quite right. Star Wars gave a lot of tips before Skeleton Crew was released and in the episodes since, that hasn't really been the case. On the one hand, Skeleton Crew put it in Star Wars The New Republic Era timeline and its location in Wild Space raise questions about how Jod could be a Jedi.
It is not out of the question, even in this time and place. Jod could be one of the survivors of Order 66, perhaps rescued from the Jedi Temple during that terrible event when he was very young, not unlike Grogu. However, the notion that he was a Jedi has only become even more dubious over time, suggesting that this possibility is quite unlikely.
One of the biggest hints that Jod isn't a Jedi came before Skeleton Crew debuted, with the release of its action figures. Curiously, None of the Jod Na Nawood action figures came with a lightsaber. While lightsabers don't necessarily define the Jedi, this was bizarre. Additionally, Jude Law has been incredibly cagey about this character in interviews, sparking even more speculation that Jod is not a Jedi.
The first four episodes of Skeleton Crew also dropped a series of new hints that Jod is not a Jedi. His use of the Force seemed questionable at best in episodes 2 and 3, somewhat reminiscent of Let There Be Obi Wan Kenobi. There was something not quite right about his 'Force' abilities, as they always seemed somewhat staged or strange when he used them.

There's also the fact that Jod directly told Wim that he never said he was a Jedi. Although Wim was horrified by this, it wasn't a huge surprise to viewers. Now, Skeleton Crew episode 4 gave a much more important hint that Jod is not a Jedi.
Jod Na Nawood doesn't use the force in Skeleton Crew episode 4
When the kids are in danger, Jod's 'Jedi' skills are nowhere to be seen
In episode 4 of Skeleton CrewFern had a stroke of genius when she realized that SM-33 could be saying that he can't say he remembers Attin because his memories were erased. Because of this, she replaces his memory and asks him once again about the planet. Evidently adhering to some directives from his previous captain, SM-33 has a major transformation into a violent and terrifying android, going after the children.
Ultimately, it's (adorably) Neel who stands up to the droid to protect his friends, although this causes SM-33 to turn against Neel. When SM-33 begins attacking Neel, Jod appears alarmed, holding a blaster but not knowing what to do. In the end, he runs into the SM-33, hitting the off button (which admittedly also felt a little questionable).
The strangest aspect of this scene is that Jod Na Nawood, supposedly a Jedi, chooses to run into SM-33 and turn off the switch instead of using the Force. Certainly, if Jod Na Nawood was truly a Jedi, or even had the Force, he would have used it to protect Neel. This is arguably the biggest hint yet that Jod isn't actually a Jedi.

I never really believed Jod Na Nawood was a Jedi
From a very early age, it felt wrong
It has not yet been officially confirmed that Jod Na Nawood is not a Jedi, but it seems almost certain at this point that he is not. Realistically, this is not surprising. Jude Law and Star Wars were being very cryptic about this character for him to be who they claimed he wasand his story just wasn't making sense.
This moment in Skeleton Crew Episode 4 was, however, fascinating for several reasons and a creative way to seemingly confirm that Jod is not a Jedi. It is likely Star Wars hasn't finished revealing mysteries about Jod's true identity. Yes, he also goes by the name Crimson Jack, but there's no doubt about anything else about that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew character – this probably won't include him being a Jedi.
The first 4 episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew are now streaming on Disney+.
