Star Wars newest TV show, Star Wars: Skeleton Crewjust gave Qui-Gon Jinn a surprising legacy, 25 years after his on-screen death in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Although Qui-Gon spent very little screen time in Star Warshe has become increasingly important since his death. In addition to having a lasting effect on Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, Qui-Gon has had appearances in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Obi Wan Kenobi.
In both shows, Qui-Gon helped Yoda and Obi-Wan (respectively) learn one of the most difficult Star Wars Force Powers: The ability to become a Force ghost. Skeleton Crew has now extended Qui-Gon's legacy in another way, which is entirely independent of him mastering this ability. A specific callback to Qui-Gon Jinn in Skeleton Crew episode 5 reveals how wise the Jedi Master was and how far the Jedi may have fallen since then.
Jude Law's mysterious character quotes Qui-Gon Jinn
Jod Na Nawood's advice to Wim suggests he might actually be a Jedi
The mystery of Jude Law Skeleton Crew The character, who goes by the names Jod Na Nawood, Crimson Jack, and Dash Zentin, to name just a few, has been referred to as a Jedi both in the series and outside of it. However, this always seemed dubious at best, as he was cautious about the term throughout. Skeleton Crewand Star Wars It is also unclear whether this is the case. Based on episode 5, it looks like Jod might be a Jedi after all, as he quoted a phrase that Qui-Gon Jinn used in The phantom menace.
In episode 5, Jod appeared to have a heart-to-heart with Wim after finding him crying aboard the Onyx Cinder. During this conversation, Jod told Wim, "Your focus determines your reality." Interestingly, even the context in which these lines were delivered is quite similar. In The phantom menaceQui-Gon said exactly that to Anakin Skywalker. This literal repetition of Qui-Gon's speech is too exact to be a coincidence.
This literal repetition of Qui-Gon's speech is too exact to be a coincidence.
Instead of being one of Star Wars 'rhymes', these doubled lines suggest that this was a Jedi teaching that Jod and Qui-Gon were repeating. In addition to being one of the most convincing pieces of evidence yet that Jod is in fact a Jedi, this callback also gives Qui-Gon a shining legacy. Clearly, Qui-Gon was a wise Jedi Master, who instilled in Anakin the Jedi's own values and beliefs, even from the beginning.
Jod Na Nawood Completely Distorted Jedi Teachings
Jod's use of the line is quite different
Whether Jod is technically a Jedi or not (or whether he was raised in the Jedi Order but is no longer a Jedi), It's clear he's misappropriating Jedi teachings. This was initially true in light of his explanation of attachment. Within the Jedi Order, the rule against attachments was intended to discourage Jedi from feeling possession or control over other people. While this extended to romantic and family relationships, it was in no way intended to encourage selfishness or isolation, which is more or less how Jod explains the concept to Wim.
Jod also misrepresents the meaning of Qui-Gon's previous line. Instead of encouraging peace and focus within oneself in a way that represents connection to the Force and true altruism, Jod's interpretation again leans toward self-centeredness. It will be interesting to see if Jod will be confirmed as a Jedi in the final three episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crewbut in the meantime, Qui-Gon Jinn legacy lives on Star Wars.
The first five episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew are now streaming on Disney+.
