In previous editions of The Battle of Jakku comic book series, Luke Skywalker was called by the Force to a planet called Pillio. There, Luke found a Jedi Star Compass and faced the Acolytes of the Beyond for the first time, as they attempted to claim the compass for themselves. That compass eventually led Luke to the first Jedi temple on Ahch-To, and likely other Force-strong planets like Ossus, the home of Skywalker's own Jedi Order. Since finding the compass, Luke's path as a Jedi Master has changed dramatically.

The quest for knowledge of the Force is a fundamental part of Luke's journey in Star Wars tradition, and Finding relics from the Order's history is a great way for stories to make this a literal quest. Additionally, he took on the heavy burden of keeping Force-strong objects out of the reach of those who would use them for evil, such as the Acolytes of the Afterlife.
