Star Wars fans are convinced that new Andor season 2 footage shows one of the Empire’s worst atrocities

New footage from Andor season two includes photos of what fans are convinced was a major imperial atrocity, which had a huge impact on Mon Mothma’s life. Excitement is building for Andor Season 2, now confirmed for release on April 22, 2025. Teasing its upcoming Disney+ TV shows, the House of Mouse has now released an exciting new video that includes a first look at Andor 2nd season.

The teaser includes scenes of a massive Imperial attack on the citizens, who are crying out for someone to help them; it appears that Cassian Andor himself is on the ground during this incident. Many fans are theorizing that this is an event called the Ghorman Massacre, a key moment in Mon Mothma’s journey to becoming a rebel.

For Mon Mothma, the Ghorman Massacre was an atrocity too far. She went from careful conspiracy to open rebellion, fleeing Coruscant before being arrested or murdered.

What the Ghorman massacre means for Star Wars

A prominent rebel leader, Mon Mothma was already a respected senator when Palpatine came to power. Following the advice of Padmé Amidala herself, she chose to operate within the political structures of the Empire in an attempt to undermine Palpatine. As Andor The first season revealed that in secret she was financing many acts of outright rebellion. But the Ghorman Massacre changed everything for Mon; two years before the Battle of Yavin, Tarkin ordered the massacre of peaceful protesters in Ghorman.

We’ve only heard about the Ghorman Massacre so far, and the prospect of actually seeing it in Andor season two is chilling and exciting. It’s entirely possible that Cassian was Mon’s contact in Ghorman who brought evidence of Imperial atrocities to her. If so, he could even be the one who extracted Mon from Coruscant.

Our opinion on Andor, season 2

Andor is essentially a story about how rebellions are born. Given that’s the case, and given that Genevieve O’Reilly’s character is so prominent, it always seemed likely Andor the second season would go to Ghorman. The interesting question is whether Andor will feature a cameo from Tarkin, created using the same VFX technology as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This might raise some strange and uncomfortable ethical questions, but it would also make sense.

That said, it’s frankly not essential. Cassian appears to be operating at the ground levelcaught up in the horror of the massacre and as such will likely never cross paths with the officers responsible. Andor could easily show the true horror of the Empire by simply having Cassian experience it without knowing who gave the order.

Diego Luna stars as Cassian Andor in Andor, a Disney+ exclusive series set five years before Rogue One. The series follows the titular character as he rises from a humble thief to a revolutionary icon of rebellion against the empire. Cassian, a man trying to stay out of confrontation after the destruction of his world, is thrust into the central conflict as he naturally assumes the role of leader. Andor will explore the flourishing days of the Rebellion and highlight pivotal events from the Star Wars franchise before the construction of the Death Star.
