Star Wars has confirmed an exciting connection between the canon Imperial Inquisitors and Galen Marek, Darth Vader’s secret apprentice of Legends. Code-named Starkiller, Galen Marek – Darth Vader’s secret apprentice – is one of the most important characters in the old Star Wars Expanded Universe. He is the main character in the popular Star Wars: The Force Unleashed games, and he has so many fans desperate to see him brought into the canon.
A new article by Lucasfilm Confirms a delightful connection between Galen Marek and the Imperial Inquisitors, Darth Vader’s Jedi-hunting agents who made their debut in Star Wars Rebels. The Inquisitors are known for their unusual ranged lightsaber heels, and concept artist Amy Beth Christenson reveals that they were inspired by concept art of The force unleashed.
“I was assigned the lightsaber for these [Grand] Inquisitor, and then they pulled out the concept that was never used before. I looked and It’s actually a lightsaber that we designed for The force unleashedWhat I was lead concept artist on. I was like, ‘Um, yeah, I can totally do that!'”
What the inspiration of Inquisitors means for Star Wars
A vocal part of the Star Wars Fandom has always longed to see Starkiller brought into Cannes, although his story would have to play out a little differently than Legends – there’s no real place for him in the story of the founding of the Rebel Alliance anymore. An unlikely Easter egg in Andr Made Starkiller’s armor cannon, but this is the closest Star Wars went so far. It has long seemed as if the Imperial Inquisitors have functionally replaced Starkiller, and this strange connection simply reinforces that idea.
What is pleasing, however, is that it is clear that nothing has been wasted Star Wars – even concept art. The Fifth Brother was an unused plan for Kylo Ren, while Leia’s Rebels The design was lifted from unused Ralph McQuarrie concept art for the original trilogy. This surely suggests that a canon version of Starkiller cannot be ruled out, as his popularity remains; Beloved characters like Grand Admiral Thrawn have made the jump to canon, and Starkiller can’t be ruled out.
Our take on the Inquisitor and Starkiller
In fact, there is one easy way for Star Wars To make Starkiller Cannon; Simply make him one of the Inquisitors. Relatively little is known about the inquisitors; They’ve existed throughout the Dark Times, and new members are constantly being added to their ranks, so Starkiller may simply be a character we haven’t seen before. The really interesting thought is whether Darth Vader would ever consider an Inquisitor as a potential apprentice; He subscribes to the Sith Rule of Two, meaning he is surely tempted to try to overthrow Palpatine on many occasions.
This idea would be perfectly in line with Lucas’ interpretation of Star Wars History. In Lucas’ opinion, when Darth Vader tempted Luke to the dark side in The empire strikes backHe is simply doing what Sith always do; Trying to find a way to claim his master’s power. That’s a story canon hasn’t really explored, and Starkiller offers a way to do so.
