Warning! This post contains spoilers for Ewoks #1Star Wars Has revealed a classic bounty hunter has become a “god” in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi. After the Battle of Endor, the Rebellion left the YWKS of Broad Tree village to continue fighting the fractured Empire. However, it’s revealed that the Empire isn’t quite done with the Forest Moon, having hired bounty hunters to help recover a secret weapons cache still on Endor.
In Marvel Comics’ new and canonical Ewoks #1 By Steven Orlando, Alvaro Lopez and Laura Braga, the Empire’s General Koyata is tasked by Governor Adelhard to recover the secret weapons cache to support the ongoing war with the Rebellion that will not really end until the Battle of Jakku. To this end, Koyata hires a former Imperial Scout trooper, a dowtin tracker named Koll Orvenk, and The Empire strikes back Classic bounty hunters, Zuckuss and 4-LOM. However, 4-LOM quickly becomes the most valuable member of the team:
As seen by the end of the issue, 4-LOM took on the role of “The Adversary”, apparently a dark god-like figure connected to the belief systems on Endor. As such, it seems that the new team will perhaps use this to their advantage to manipulate the Ewoks’ help to find the weapons cache.
4-LOM discovers his new role as “The Adversary”
A dark god of Endor
4-LOM learns of his new “role” on Endor after the team’s encounter with a tribe of green-horse Dulox, another sentient species native to the Forest Moon ravaging the Ewoks. Defeat them all, the final Duloc names 4-LOM “The Adversary” while also speaking of a “Great Devourer” and “Red Ghost”. Although there is no hint as to who the “Great Devourer” might be, the Red Ghost looks like a red-horse Ewok perched in the trees secretly watching the team from above.

Regardless, Zuckuss claims he can work with his partner’s new role as some sort of supernatural being in the eyes of Endor’s various tribes. 4-LOM likely resembles a prominent mythological figure in their religions and culture, something the team will be able to use. However, this new case of mistaken identity on Endor connects quite well to the events of Return of the Jedi.
4-LOM is not the first Star Wars droid to be mistaken for a god
Threepio in Return of the Jedi
After C-3PO was similarly believed to be a god by the Ewoks, the tribes of Broad Tree were convinced not to eat the rest of the Rebels thanks to Luke Skywalker’s use of the Force to show C-3PO’s “great power” . This is likely due to Threepio’s status as a droid combined with his gold plating. Now, a much more dangerous droid has come to Endor, and it makes sense that 4-LOM would also be mistaken for a deity on the Forest Moon.. As such, it will be interesting to see if the Ewoks will be fooled, and when the truth will eventually come to light.
