Star Wars canon will struggle to top Grand Admiral Throne’s Final Moments in Legends

The true perfection of Grand Admiral Throne Last moments in Star Wars Legends will be very hard for the current and canonical timeline to beat. In the previous (and now non-canon) timeline, Thrawn received a dynamic death truly worthy of his character, being one of the Expanded Universe’s best villains. Although he also quickly became one of the best of the new canon, it may be difficult to give Thrawn an ending that has already been seen in Legends.

Debuting in Timothy Zahn’s book trilogy from the early 90s, Thrawn was relegated to the non-canon legends in 2014 like so many other stories and characters when Disney rebooted the entire timeline apart from the core movies and shows. However, Thrawn was brought back to the canon thanks to 2016’s Star Wars RebelsAnd in 2023, his live-action debut as one of the biggest villains of the New Republic timeline, mirroring elements of his original introduction while being in a very different story. However, the official Star Wars Kanon will have a hard time over Thrawn’s last words from Zahn The last command (1993).

Grand Admiral Thrawn’s defeat of the legends is so perfect

There are two ways to interpret Thrawn’s final words

For all his impressive logic and impressive skills as the Empire’s greatest tactical mind, Grand Admiral Thrawn’s efforts were undone, and his life ended with a major betrayal in LegendsOne generated by the rebels themselves. While Palpatine’s alien death commandos known as the Noghri have been loyal to Darth Vader for years, Leia reveals the truth that the Empire are not their saviors but instead their secret slavers. As such, the Noghri ally with the New Republic, and Thrawn’s personal Noghri bodyguard Rukh stabs the Grand Admiral in the back. This motivates Thrawn’s surprising and poignant final words to Captain Pelaeon:

Troyen sat upright on his chair, his face strangely calm. In the middle of his chest, a dark red spot spread over the off-white of his Grand Admiral’s uniform. In the center of the spot, the tip of Rook’s assassin’s knife slid.

Throne seized him; And to Peleon’s amazement, the Grand Admiral smiled. “But,” he whispered, “it was so artistically done.”

The smile faded. The gleam in his eyes did just that… and Thrawn, the last Grand Admiral, was gone.

interesting, There are two primary ways Star Wars Fans have interpreted Thrawn’s last wordsAnd both are quite compelling. The first is that Thrawn admired the way in which his plans were all undone by Leia and the New Republic. He respected the artificial nature of how the Jew had turned from his favor in ways he could not have predicted before Ruach’s betrayal that took his life.

The second is that Thrawn admired/lamented his own work and all the effort he put into his campaign, only for his masterpiece to be unfinished due to his death. In any case, Thrawn’s last words in Legends speak perfectly to his character. It is certainly a testament to Zahn’s impressive writingwho probably considered two interpretations with the very strong end for such a dynamic Star Wars Villain.

Can Star Wars Canon beat this iconic moment?

It will be very difficult to top

Now look at the established Star Wars Canon, it certainly looks like Grand Admiral Thrawn is positioned to become just as big of a villain in the current New Republic timeline as he was in Legends. The character is largely the same; A brilliant tactician with a high degree of appreciation for art and respect for the strategies of his opponents. That said, the events of his death will likely be quite different for many reasons, including the fact that Rook died in the Star Wars Canon well before the events of the original trilogy.

As a result, One would hope that Lucasfilm would find a way to keep Thrawn’s last words the same. His death will undoubtedly occur under different circumstances in the new Star Wars Canon. However, the last sentiments of the Grand Admiral in Legends are far too perfect to pass up in their entirety.
