Star Trek: Lower Decks Fans everywhere received some pretty unfortunate news earlier this year when streaming service Paramount announced that it would not be renewing the animated series and that the fifth season would be its last. Although viewers were understandably upset, more encouraging news about the series was released several months later.
IDW Publishing, which previously published a Lower decks the miniseries, as well as several one-shots, revealed that it would bring the fan-favorite show back as an ongoing comic. Ryan North is returning to write the series, while artist Derek Charm takes on artistic duties for the series.

Star Trek: Lower Decks follows the crew of the USS Cerritos, a Starfleet ship whose crew is responsible for 'second contact' (i.e. handling bureaucratic needs after first contact). The show focuses primarily on the lower-ranking ensigns (the series' titular 'Lower Decks') and their adventures as they try to navigate their careers and personal lives amidst the usual chaotic situations that usually happen in Starfleet. The show was a hit among fans and in 2022, Star Trek: Lower Decks finally got his first comic book from North and Chris Fenoglio and published by IDW.
Although Star Trek: Lower Decks had a run of five seasons, it still feels like it's too early to say goodbye. Fortunately, IDW Publishing has injected new life into every era of Star Trekfrom the original series to the continuity established in JJ Abrams' films. It's no surprise that IDW would capitalize on the sudden ending, giving fans something that could help fill the void. Of course, it's not the same as sitting down to watch the show, but can maintain one of the best entrances in the Star Trek franchise has been around for years.

It really sucks when a show gets canceled because other than rewatching old shows, there's no way to really support them.
