Star Rail 3.0 leaks show character skins could be closer than ever

Long-time character skins in Honkai: Star Trail may be closer than ever, according to a new string of Version 3.0 leaks. Alternative costumes for characters have not been made official in the game, despite many rumors that the system will be introducedjust like those in HoYoverse's other RPG, Genshin Impact. These outfits do not necessarily bring any gameplay value beyond the aesthetic appreciation of certain units. The turn-based RPG has already introduced alternative skins for characters, like the one unlocked on March 7 (Hunt) in Honkai: Star Trailwho changes his clothes when he changes his path.

In addition to this Path-related outfit, more alternate skins have been previously teased by HoYoverse. Prior to her Swordmaster outfit, March 7th temporarily wore a special dress during Jolted Awake From a Winter Dream. In addition to the Astral Express member, Stellaron Hunter Kafka was also seen without his traditional jacket during the Xianzhou Luofu story arc.. There have been numerous mentions of an exclusive cosmetic outfit for March 7th and a character skin for Kafka in Honkai: Star Trailbut HoYoverse has not yet provided further details. However, new leaks suggest that skins will arrive soon.

Honkai: Star Rail 3.0 Beta Test Leaks Reveal More Details About Character Skins

Skins could be 4-star items, according to leaks

According to information from the leaker known as Kazusa, which was shared in a post tagged “Reliable” about RedditCharacter skins have been worked on since version 1.4 beta in 2023. The current beta tests for version 3.0 have reportedly added more information about skins. The leaker mentions that the skins will be able to be purchased in a specific section of the store, possibly like the character clothing section of Genshin Impactin the game store. Additionally, Kazusa mentions that the currency used to purchase skins is still unknown, but that the default rarity of items for character outfits in Honkai: Star Trail it will be 4 stars.

As seen in the leak, the game has variables for costumes like “AvatarSkinName,”“AvatarSkinStory,” and “AvatarSkinSynopsis,” which may refer to the title, description/story, and summary of the skin. Genshin Impact has these elements in each skin, so the supposed skin system in the turn-based RPG could be molded around the one used in the action RPG. Another interesting aspect of the leak is that there may be different skins for characters depending on the path they follow; March 7 being Preservation and Hunt could see her have new skins that she can only equip in one of her two forms, for example.

Character skins likely won't be added to Honkai: Star Rail 3.0

Rumor has it that the system is still a work in progress

In addition to general information about the supposed skin system that is in development for a future patch, the leaker also reinforces the rumors that Kafka could get a new outfit. Kazusa reinforces that during beta testing of Version 2.5, HoYoverse suggested that Stellaron Hunter would be the first to get a skin via a coding term which supposedly translates as “test_not_yet_created.” As such, Kafka may be the first to have an alternative, cosmetics-only outfit, even if it has yet to be tested before an official implementation in a future Honkai: Star Trail to update.

The presence of new skin-related coding in the 3.0 beta tests does not mean it will appear in 3.0 specifically. Although it has been tested using content from the next update, it is very likely that the skin system and any related outfits that may come with it will only be introduced in a future update. This is mainly because, as the leaker states, the skin system is still a work in progress and has not been leaked for version 3.0. Patch content, such as the Amphoraus images in Honkai: Star Trail 3.0, all leaked.

With no outfit images leaked less than a month before the patch arrives, it's unlikely the skins will be introduced as early as version 3.0. For now, the focus is likely on gameplay design for new characters, the Remembrance Path, and Amphoraus as a whole. However, while leaks should always be taken with a grain of salt, the skin updates look promising for the game's third year of content, in addition to the fact that character skins are a logical next step for a customizable experience in a game like Honkai: Star Trail.
