Warning: Contains spoilers for Spider-Boy #12! The web of life and destiny is well within Spider-Man study, paving the way for the introduction of a whole new ‘hero’: Spider-Girl. However, it seems the ‘hero’ didn’t start out that way, as she has a connection to a mind-blowing villain who molded Spider-Girl into his apprentice, complete with her first assignment: kill Spider-Boy.
In a preview for Spider-Boy #12 by Dan Slott and Paco Medina, Bailey Briggs aka Spider-Boy is standing in a crowd of adoring fans, signing autographs and using his celebrity status to get free street food. This is all completely new to Spider-Boy, as before now, no one knew he even existed. Spider-Boy was previously erased from the web of life and destiny, and his entire story arc was re-establishing himself in the Marvel Universe – and he finally did.
Unfortunately, remembering a universe that forgot it existed also comes with a downside. All of the villains Spider-Boy faces suddenly remember how much they hate him, putting a major target on Bailey’s back right as he readjusts to a life that was stolen from him. And it seems that the one that is the most difficult for him is Marvel’s new Spider-Girl, who is trained to kill him by a shocking villain: Bullseye.
Marvel’s new Spider-Girl is Bullseye’s apprentice
Spider-Boy won’t have to fight Bullseye and Spider-Girl alone
While her identity has yet to be revealed, a young female character in red is working with Bullseye in this preview, and is targeting Spider-Boy from afar. It can be assumed that she is Spider-Girl based on the official synopsis of Spider-Boy #12 released by Marvel Comics before the preview was available:
The all-new… Spider-Girl?! We are not kidding! After the latest shake-up of status quo, Spider-Boy’s life really will never be the same again! In light of what happened, maybe it’s time for Bailey Briggs to be someone else’s sidekick. Get ready for the devil, because here comes the “boy without fear”! Also in this issue: Bullseye and the saddest secret character of them all.
So, with it safely established that Spider-Girl is Bullseye’s apprentice, and her mission is to kill Spider-Boy, it seems the young web-head is doomed. Bullseye is arguably the deadliest assassin in Marvel Comics, meaning a spider-powered character undergoing his training would be equally deadly. However, as grim as it may seem, Spider-Boy’s fate is not yet sealed.
Thankfully, Spider-Boy will have the backup of a superhero more than familiar with Bullseye’s tactics: Daredevil. Daredevil will take Spider-Boy under his wing in this issue, and he will help the young hero fight for his life against Bullseye and Spider-Girl, giving Bailey the fighting chance he needs to get out of this alive.
What will come next for Marvel’s new Spider-Girl?
It seems unlikely that Spider-Girl will remain under Bullseye’s influence for very long – but what does her future look like? Perhaps Bullseye will be defeated by Daredevil and Spider-Boy, only for Spider-Girl to continue on her villainous ways. Or, perhaps this story arc will end with Spider-Girl being redeemed by Spider-Boy, and will join him as a superhero. At this point, nothing is certain, and only time will tell what Spider-Girl’s future holds in Marvel Comics.
