Spider-Man is now an agent Doctor Doomin a major character change that no one in the Webslinger fandom could have predicted. Marvel’s longtime villain is now Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme, and his recruitment of Spider-Man for an all-new mission could lead to a major hero transformation for the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
The Amazing Spider-Man #61 comes from the new creative team of Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness, and officially kicks off the “8 Deaths of Spider-Man” storyline, which will feature Spidey being recruited by Doom to save the world from an evil demigod and his descendants.
The preview shows Spider-Man facing some of Parker’s old luck in dealing with a forgettable villain, showing that no matter how fantastical the story may become, Kelly and McGuinnness understand Spider-Man’s core virtues.

The preview may show that the series’ new creative team understands what makes Spider-Man tick, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be willing to play around with the format. It looks like the “8 Kills of Spider-Man” storyline will make a number of changes to Peter Parker for now, with the request advanced for Amazing Spider-Man #61 stating:

Marvel has already revealed what Spidey’s new costume will look like, a silver and red ensemble that allows the Web-Slinger to launch magical green webs.
Spider-Man is going to need all the help he can get, because Doctor Doom presents him with his new magical outfit to face the Scions of Cyttorak. Longtime Marvel fans will recognize Cyttorak as the demon lord who gave the Juggernaut his unstoppable powers through his Crimson Gem. It’s also nice that Spidey now has eight extra lives to help accomplish his mission, as it’s currently unknown exactly how many Scions of Cyttorak he’ll face, and whether he’ll face Cyttorak himself eventually.

Marvel Teases They Won’t Be
Ominously, Marvel’s request for Amazing Spider-Man #61 also teases that the eight lives mystically granted to Peter Parker “it won’t be enough“for your mission, setting the stage for a dangerous and tense journey through the mystical side of the Marvel Universe for the publisher’s most robust hero, Spider-Man. The fact that this arc is directly linked to Doctor Doom’s new paradigm is also crucial, since he acquired the position of Sorcerer Supreme at the end of this year’s issue. Blood Huntfans are eager to know where Doctor Doom’s story is going.
In addition to putting Peter Parker on his own mission in “8 Deaths of Spider-Man,” the story of Doom will continue in next year’s crossover. A world under destructionwhich will be released next January in Fantastic Four #28, before continuing in February with The Rise of Emperor Doom #1. How all of this relates to the “8 Deaths of Spider-Man” has yet to be determined, so fans will have to add Amazing Spider-Man to your pull list to follow Doctor Doom current position in the Marvel Universe.
