Warning: Spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog #75THE Sonic the Hedgehog The franchise is no stranger to intense action sequences, but one moment in the comics took the series to a darker place than ever before. Sonic and his friends usually save everyone during their fights against the forces of evil, but now they have been forced to accept that death cannot always be avoided, changing the status quo of the series forever.

Sonic the Hedgehog #75 by Evan Stanley and Min Ho Kim concludes the exciting “Phantom Riders” arc, which takes inspiration from the Sonic Knights video game trilogy. It's comforting to see Jewel's spirits lift once the dust settles, but It's clear that she, Sonic, and the others will all be changed by this experience.

In this particular case, there were no notable casualties at Resistance HQ, but the possibility of death marks a sad turn in Sonic lore.
