Sonic the Hedgehog 3 stars Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba ask for a “Together and Shadow” spinoff, both teasing hopeful returns to Sonic universe. Elba plays Knuckles the Echidna in the cinematic universe, having also reprized the role in 2024 Knuckles TV spinoff on Paramount+. Reeves will debut in the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as Shadow, a black and red hedgehog who tries to destroy the world in his quest for revenge. The new characters' debut in the first trailer saw him effortlessly defeat Knuckles in a fight, forming an immediate animosity between the two.
Talking to Comics regarding the upcoming film, Reeves and Elba expressed interest in teaming up for a spinoff starring Knuckles and Shadow after Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Elba expressed interest saying, “I'm telling you… Shadow Knuckles,” while Reeves responded by saying, “No, Knuckles and Shadow.” The Knuckles actor joked that “Shadow Knuckles sounds like a band.” Their exchange indicates how much they are on board with a possible spinoff starring their characters, as well as how the story could develop following whatever happens in the new film.
