Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Mufasa: The Lion King are fighting for first place while Nosferatus takes a clear lead among new releases. THE Sonic sequence and the Lion King The prequel debuted the weekend before Christmas, with the former taking a clear lead by earning a domestic gross of $60.1 million, compared to the latter's $35.4 million. THE Nosferatus the remake arrived on Christmas Day to offer some serious competition, alongside the Bob Dylan biopic A complete strangerboxing drama The Fire Withinand the erotic thriller Little baby.

Put Deadlinefrom Saturday morning, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 leads the traditional 3-day weekend, while Mufasa: The Lion King can claim the 5-day holiday weekend. Sonic is projected to earn a 3-day total of $37.5 million and a 5-day total of $59.4 million, while Mufasa expects a 3-day total of US$35.5 million, with a 5-day turnover of US$61.7 million. However, it is still too early to announce a winner for the weekendespecially considering the fact that Sonic it collapsed on Sunday of opening weekend and could happen again.

Meanwhile, among upcoming titles, Nosferatus is projected to be the highest-grossing new release. However, its estimated $20.15M 3-day debut and $39.3M 5-day debut still leaves it tied for third place with Evilwhich is a little behind, with projections of US$19.85 million and US$32.1 million. The second highest-grossing release is A complete strangerwhich is far behind, with US$11.8 million and US$23.3 million.
