Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, episode 5.After Genet’s shocking death in episode 4 The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon continued killing its main antagonists while Daryl murdered one of its greatest enemies, but something about the villain’s death felt off. Although Genet Undead death was a bit disappointing considering how much potential she had as a villain, her exit helped elevate Daryl’s remaining enemies. As a result, the protagonist’s inevitable confrontation with Losang felt bigger than ever and the fight did not disappoint. The showdown may have come sooner than expected, but seeing these two experienced fighters fight to the death was great fun.
With L’Union betraying Daryl Dixon at the start of season 2 the rivalry between Losang and Daryl became quite personaland although neither’s main goal was to kill the other, their tension reached a climax in episode 5. Losang’s desperation to find Laurent and keep L’Union’s vision alive meant he was more than willing to go through Daryl to capture the boy. Likewise, Daryl’s main goal was to bring Laurent safely to the Commonwealth, meaning these two characters had no choice but to fight. While the matchup nailed it from a combat standpoint, it was missing one important detail that felt a little off.
Daryl Dixon never found out that Losang killed Isabelle
Losang’s death means Daryl may never know the truth about what happened to Isabelle
Despite how big the action was between Daryl and Losang during their epic fight in episode 5, Daryl never found out that Losang was responsible for Isabelle’s death. Although he decided not to tell Isabelle that he loved her, it’s clear that the protagonist had strong feelings for his love interest before she died, and Isabelle felt the same. The two shared some passionate moments, making Isabelle Undead death hurt a little more; however, although Daryl was with her during her final moments, he never asked what happened to Isabelle, leaving the cause of her death a mystery.
Carol was aware that she had been stabbed, and assuming she told Daryl this information, he may have assumed it was Losang. Still, her death is not mentioned when the two face each other, and Although Daryl brutally kills the villain, it doesn’t seem like there was any pent-up anger being taken out on him.. There was some personal animosity between them given the way the Season 2 story played out, but the final moments of the fight didn’t feel like Daryl getting revenge on the man who killed someone close to him, it just felt like the protagonist taking care of business. .
So unless these details are mentioned in the Season 2 finale, it looks like Daryl will never find out who killed Isabelle. Even though episode 6 clarifies this, it seems almost irrelevant now that the antagonist is dead, creating a slightly strange vibe to their confrontation. The fight was still great, but it could have had more emotion if Daryl had been carrying his anger over Isabelle’s death, suggesting there was some wasted potential when it came to this highly anticipated battle.
Losang’s death would have been so much better if Daryl knew how Isabelle died
The fight didn’t feel as personal as it could have been
Having Daryl enter the fight knowing that Losang killed Isabelle would have given the fight an extra edge. The small tweak would not only have made Daryl’s brutal death more meaningful, but it could have also allowed for some compelling dialogue during the fight. Killing Isabelle seemingly set Losang on a darker path and having him potentially insult and ridicule Daryl after Isabelle was created would have shown how much his mission changed him. Additionally, this could have led to Daryl making more mistakes, prolonging the fight longer and making his eventual victory seem even more triumphant.
Alternatively, Losang could have shown remorse for his actions, which would have made Daryl violently beating the villain to death seem even more cruel.
Alternatively, Losang could have shown remorse for his actions, which would have made Daryl violently beating the villain to death seem even more cruel. Daryl and Losang Undead The fight had many strong points, but it lacked the emotional weight that had been built up throughout the seasonand having Losang use Isabelle’s death in one way or another could have made their fight even more iconic. It seemed like an odd decision not to use Losang’s most sinister moment as ammunition for this encounter, but that didn’t stop the fight itself from living up to the hype.
The final battle against Losang is still one of Daryl’s best moments on The Walking Dead
Daryl’s brutal victory over Losang proved how violent he can be
Daryl has had many memorable moments throughout his Undead mandate, but his fight with Losang is up there. One-on-one combat only happens on special occasions in the zombie franchise, but when it does happen, it tends to work. Daryl vs. Beta contained gripping drama that showed just how strong of a fighter Daryl is, and his conflict with Losang was a reminder of that. Seeing the protagonist strategically use his weapons against a worthy opponent, while also thinking quickly to avoid disaster, is exactly why fans have come to love Daryl so much.
New episodes of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol airs Sundays on AMC and AMC+.
The ruthless nature of his death also shows how far the protagonist is willing to go when pressured. Even the build-up to the fight with Daryl killing Losang’s men in the darkness made him feel like a Batman-level threat.especially when he emerged from the shadows and came face to face with the antagonist. May not have eclipsed some of Daryl’s best Undead scenes, like saving Alexandria or challenging Negan, but his fight with Losang is an unforgettable encounter, making Daryl Dixon The confrontation in episode 5 is one of the character’s best moments in the entire franchise.
