The duo were surprised to learn about the Halloween special sequel

…in the first part they created so many ideas and knowledge and it was really smart.

The Solars look frightened by the arrival of a witch in The Solar Opposites Halloween Special Part 2

Screen Rant: I like what we’re getting Halloween Special Part 2because the first trip was so much fun from start to finish. Sean, I’ll start with you and then Mary, what was it like when you saw the script for this special event?

Sean Giambrone: Oh, well, I loved it. I didn’t know we were going to do a sequel to the holiday special, but I just thought it was really smart because the first movie set up so many ideas and lore and it was just really smart. Everything they did drove me crazy, and then introducing another holiday to duel with this holiday was just a really fun idea. And Halloween has so many possibilities. Looking at all the backgrounds of each frame there are a lot of different puns, so I’m really glad we made this sequel.

Mary Mac: Me too. Yes, Great Pumpkin, she can’t be brought back. And I mean, come on, you should blow up as many pumpkins as possible while you have the chance. So I think it’s pretty smart. Keep blowing up those pumpkins. [Laughs]

Mac it’sSimply honored“The way the writers approach Jesse’s character

…they know where I come from and don’t force me to hide it.

Jesse looks happy showing off his DIY Halloween decorations in Solar Opposites of Halloween Special Part 2

If we get a trilogy of Halloween specials, I’ll certainly be very happy. So, Mary, next time I would like to turn to you. I didn’t have a chance to talk to you because Solar opposites Season 5. I loved seeing Jessie get a bigger role this season, especially since we learned that she’s somehow above Yum in this team’s food chain. What was it like to dive into that side of her last season?

Mary Mac: You know, you record each of these episodes and you think, “Oh, I should have done this, this and this. But I hope everything turned out the way they wanted.” But I never realized that I was the main character of the show until the show happened, after we recorded it. And I thought, “Oh, wait a second. It was a lot of lines. I probably should have given them more takes.” [Laughs]

But I love it so much, this show is so stupid, I’m just flattered. It’s so fun and funny and touching that I’m honored to be a part of it, and I’m honored that they know my personality and know where I’m coming from and don’t force me to hide it. They agree with that, and I think they are truly great writers and great bosses.

Yumyulak’s creepy transformation was so crazy that it turned into “Too uncomfortable

The boss said, “It scares me.” I feel embarrassed watching this.”

The Solars are concerned about Yumyulak's transformation into a flirtatious cat in The Solar Opposites Halloween Special Part 2,

Sean, I’ll turn to you next and dive into the Halloween special. So you’ve basically become a slutty cat, and I’d love to hear what it’s like to try to get into that mentality for a record.

Sean Giambrone: Grant, it was crazy. It was me and Sydney, the director, and she said, “Okay, we’ll really try to do this. We want to launch this sexy cat.” So first I had to try to figure out what the voice would be like, so I tried to make it sultry or something, and then in my head I was like maybe some Britney Spears or something. But then Sydney says, “Make a valley girl, but now make it a little more feminine.”

She was saying all these terms and they meant different things and I had to keep going back because it was too sexy, it was too uncomfortable, really.[Laughs] The boss said, “It scares me. I hate to watch this.” So they toned it down. It was a very unique experience for me. I’ve never tried to play this type of character before.

Mary Mac: I wish I was there in that room, Sean. I’d have a lot of fun watching you do it. [Laughs]

Sean Giambrone: I don’t know, Mary, it was weird in that room.

Jessie”Just excited“Being Part of the Family’s Halloween Pranks (Except for Mac’s Favorite Moment)”

Shame on these writers…

The Solars scream as they plunge into the cauldron as Mortimer watches and smiles in Halloween Solar Opposites Part 2,

And then, Mary, you turn into a werewolf, but I like that Jesse doesn’t completely take control of that. I’d love to hear about finding that balance between Jesse being good natured and becoming this kind of monster.

Mary Mac: Yeah, I don’t know, I think Jesse was just excited to be a part of Halloween in a new way. My favorite part is how she shaves her legs and then they come right back. So she tried to look like a sexy werewolf for a moment, but you couldn’t do it. You have to make a commitment. Shame on these writers who made me shave my legs and then the hair immediately came back. But I think she’s with us and she’s going to make the best of it, which is why I loved being a werewolf.

Giambrone is a big horror fan, but Mack doesn’t compare to the genre

Honestly, I can’t sleep when I watch them.

The Solars look angry when Corvo throws the bat in The Solar Opposites Halloween Special Part 2

So, since we’re talking about a Halloween special and I’m a horror fan, I’d love to hear your thoughts. What are your favorite horror movies or just plain spooky watches during the Halloween season?

Mary Mac: Sean has plenty of them.

Sean Giambrone: Well, I’ve been watching a lot of horror lately, even in the last couple of months. But now I’m watching Harry Potter, and that second movie was a little creepy. But I also watched Hereditary and it was weird. I’m going to watch one of the Halloween movies and then I watched Scream for the first time. I’m just rushing to all these first viewings. I don’t really repeat anything. At Christmas, yes, but not at Halloween. And you, Mary?

Mary Mac: I can’t watch scary movies. I won’t sleep for two days. I can’t even read a scary book. I can’t even read a Stephen King book. When I was little I remember my siblings were much older and they made me watch all the Stephen King stuff like The Shining and I was so scared that I could never watch it again. I’ve never been good at watching horror films. I watched the old Nightmare on Elm Street when slumber parties were a common thing when we were little.

We weren’t supposed to watch those movies, and I remember A Nightmare on Elm Street scared me—I couldn’t watch anything else after that. This was probably the last scary movie I watched. I love it when I go to an antique show and there’s a scary antique and you’re like, “Wow, I didn’t know it would cost that much.” This is as scary as I want to go. Honestly, I can’t sleep when I watch them.

I don’t blame you. I remember when I was a child I saw A Nightmare on Elm Street Johnny Depp’s death trailer, and I couldn’t sleep for days, I was like, “Ah, I can’t even lie down comfortably

Mary Mac: Or when she’s in the bath and he comes into the bath with his razor hands and sucks her through the bath. It’s horrible! I’ll probably get sued for this, but I don’t care. This traumatized me for the rest of my life.

Giambrone will return to Goldbergs In an instant

I don’t know when this will happen…

Goldbergs Adam

I see I’m almost out of time, so I’d also like to ask you very quickly, Sean, one of your first big roles was Goldbergs. It ended a year ago, but I’m curious if you’ve ever thought about a revival in the future since so many of these shows are back after being off the air for a bit?

Sean Giambrone: Oh, I would certainly do that. I would return in a heartbeat. I don’t know when this will happen or if there will be any talk about it, but they always have something cool for Halloween and yes, I will definitely be back. I’d like to go back to the 80s. I kind of miss it because it’s one of the greatest times. I would definitely be ready for it, but no, I don’t know when it will happen, but I’m ready.

Mary Mac: No, I don’t want Sean to remake The Goldbergs. I have three scripts I’d like to see Sean in, but I just don’t have time to tell him. He can’t! [Laughs]

Sean Giambrone: After my projects with Mary, I’ll be returning to The Goldbergs. [Laughs]

Mary Mac: Yes, as soon as he writes my scripts, he will be open. But it will take some time.
