Snoopy perhaps the most iconic character in everything Peanut catalog (even including Charlie Brown), and the main reason is that he is not one character, but several. Snoopy has no shortage of alter egos. Peanut canon, which allows him to participate in a number of adventures throughout the series, each reflecting a unique personality. From “Joe Cool” Snoopy to “World War I Flying Ace”, Snoopy wears many “hats” in Peanutincluding “World Famous Tennis Player”.
The world famous tennis player is the alter ego of Snoopy, who first appeared in Peanut comic published June 11, 1970. In the comic’s debut, a world-famous tennis pro takes to the court, ready to show off his unparalleled tennis skills to the world. At least he would have done so if this world famous tennis player hadn’t been terrible at tennis. When Snoopy’s opponent served a tennis ballhe flew past him, causing Snoopy to do a backflip from his great speed.
As he gets back to his feet, the world famous tennis player says: “I hate it when they work hard!”, as if there is any other correct way to serve the ball in tennis. This front page alone proves that Snoopy’s “Tennis Pro” alter ego doesn’t quite live up to his name, as it appears there are quite a few tennis players (professional or otherwise) who can best him – apparently with just one fast serve . . However, this initial confusion does not dampen Snoopy’s undeserved confidence in his tennis skills, as the world-famous tennis player makes several appearances in subsequent games. Peanut.
World famous tennis player Snoopy has no shortage of hilarious Peanuts moments
Snoopy even found a mixed doubles partner, Molly Volley
Despite not being very good at tennis in his debut comic, the tennis pro holds his head high and doesn’t let his initial setback stop him from getting back on the tennis court. And despite years of dedicated training, with an unrivaled passion for the game, the World Famous Tennis Player is still not very good. Obviously, no amount of heart can compensate for an innate lack of skill, and every Peanuts comic that features a world-famous tennis player highlights this sad truth.
However, Snoopy realizes that if he really wants to go pro, he doesn’t have to do it alone. Peanut eventually introduces the world famous tennis player’s mixed doubles partner, Molly Wally, who plays several matches alongside Snoopy – much to her disappointment. Molly Wally takes the game incredibly seriously and she truly has the skills to back up her passion for the game. While Snoopy certainly has passion, he is woefully lacking in skill and fails Molly Volley in every match they play together (really hilarious).
A running joke of Snoopy’s Tennis Pro alter ego is that no matter how many matches he plays, he never gets better, making his nickname an amusing misnomer. What makes the ongoing gag consistently funny is Snoopy’s delusional view of his own skills, especially when it is revealed what his ultimate goal is. It would be one thing if Snoopy was bad at tennis, knew he was bad, but just loved the game for its own sake. But it’s a different story when you consider that he actually thinks he’s good enough to achieve his ultimate goal of playing at Wimbledon.
Will world-famous tennis player Snoopy make it to Wimbledon? Something like that, yeah
Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don’t Come Back!)
Based on everything readers have seen in the book World Famous Tennis Player Snoopy, it seems clear that he will never make it to Wimbledon (the world famous tennis tournament). Snoopy has stated that he hates it when his opponents serve the ball quickly or even return the ball during a match – and it is virtually guaranteed that any opponent he faces at Wimbledon will do both. So there’s no way Snoopy can play on the Wimbledon court, right? Wrong.
In 1980 Peanut movie Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don’t Come Back!)Charlie Brown is an exchange student in France and Snoopy gets a ride from hitchhiker. They arrive in London before crossing the English Channel, during which time Snoopy sneaks off to play tennis at Wimbledon, effectively fulfilling the world-famous tennis player’s dream. However, just because he played at Wimbledon doesn’t mean he was there, as Snoopy was quickly kicked off the field. But winning Wimbledon wasn’t the world-famous tennis player’s dream, just playing there was enough – and somehow Snoopy actually pulled it off.
Interestingly, the 1980 animated film was not Snoopy’s first attempt at Wimbledon. Back in Peanut In the June 1976 comic, Snoopy takes a train to Kansas City because that’s where he thinks Wimbledon is. Although he obviously doesn’t, this storyline ends on a happy note for another reason: Snoopy is reunited with his sister Belle. The family reunion is enough to distract Snoopy from his dream of playing at Wimbledon until he finally gets the opportunity again. Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don’t Come Back!).
The world-famous tennis player may be Snoopy’s funniest alter ego (for one obvious reason)
Dogs are known to love playing with tennis balls, and Snoopy is no exception.
Although Snoopy may have a large number of alter egos in Peanut canon, World Famous Tennis Player may be his funniest story of all time, and that’s because it’s a hilarious look at a dog playing with tennis balls. It’s hard to find a dog that doesn’t love playing with tennis balls, especially in the game of fetch. However, Snoopy is not like ordinary dogs. Snoopy has always had human qualities. Therefore, his inherent desire to play with tennis balls, like a dog, manifests itself in a more human way, giving birth to a world famous tennis player.

World famous tennis player Snoopy may not be the best tennis player in the world (despite the fact that he did make it to Wimbledon), but that doesn’t matter compared to the alter ego’s real greatest achievement: being the hilarious addition to Peanut. Peanut filled to the brim with amazing characters and storylines spanning half a century of world-building. But even still Snoopy he manages to constantly attract attention as perhaps the most iconic of them all, all thanks to his hilarious alter egos such as the World Famous Tennis Player.
