Smile 2 deleted scene makes Skye’s story with her even more tragic

A deleted scene from Smile 2 centers on Skye (Naomi Scott) and her mother and manager, Elizabeth (Rosemarie DeWitt), and while it may seem unimportant, this scene makes their story even more tragic. 2024 was a big year for horror, with a variety of horror films that won over critics and general audiences alike. Among them is Smile 2the sequel to Parker Finn’s horror hit in 2022 Smilewhich continues Smile Entity’s path by finding a new host in global pop star Skye Riley, who is preparing for a new tour.

As the Smile Entity feeds on trauma, it finds its perfect host in Skye, while she is still struggling with a traumatic car accident, the death of her boyfriend, and years of substance use disorder. The Smile Entity slowly begins to take control of Skye’s mind, manifesting itself virtually anywhere and at any time, causing her vivid hallucinations that lead to some shocking plot twists near the end of Smile 2. Skye has a complicated relationship with her mother and a deleted scene from Smile 2 makes everything even more tragic.

Skye met a horrible ending in Smile 2

Smile established that the Smile Entity deeply messes with the minds of its hosts, using their deepest fears and traumas to break them further. However, in Smile 2the entity went to new and more cruel messing with Skye and taking over her completely, leaving her no chance of defeating him. The Smile Entity went so far as to make Skye believe that she had made peace with her best friend Gemma, but every interaction between them was a very vivid hallucination of the entity.

All over Smile 2Skye has brief but mostly intense interactions with her mother, who tries to push her to do her best at rehearsals and events while Skye is going through a lot mentally and emotionally. Their most chaotic and horrific interaction turns out to be a hallucination, but a deleted scene shows what could be Elizabeth and Skye’s final conscious interaction. In it (through Collider), Elizabeth tells Skye she’s going to clear her schedule so they can spend some time off at the Four Seasons, with a spa day included.

Skye doesn’t like the idea and angrily gets up, puts on her jacket and prepares to leave, but not before exchanging aggressive words with her mother. It is unclear exactly when this scene would have been set. Smile 2but this may be Skye’s last conscious interaction with her mother. Any real interactions Skye has with Elizabeth between the hospital and the show are not conscious on Skye’s part, and the last time they saw each other was at the show when Skye passes the Smiling Curse to her mother and thousands of participants.

Knowing that Skye and Elizabeth’s real and final interaction was aggressive and terrible makes their story even more tragic, as they never managed to repair their relationship before Skye’s shocking deathand that could give the Smile Entity a lot to feed from now that Elizabeth is one of its hosts.

Most of the events in Smile 2 are hallucinations of the Smile entity

Most interactions between Skye and Elizabeth are real until the attack on her apartment. One day, Skye finds her dancers in her apartment, smiling at her, and they attack her, with one of them forcing a giant arm down her throat. Skye wakes up in a wellness clinic with her mother, but it’s not real anymore.

The Smile entity takes control of Elizabeth and she kills herself in front of Skye, but as proven by the end of Smile 2this isn’t real and Elizabeth is alive and well, and Skye was never in the hospital. As mentioned above, Skye and Elizabeth never had a chance to improve their relationship, and now Elizabeth is one of thousands of Smile Entity hosts.
